College Preparatory Program Coordinator

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned College Preparatory Program Coordinator to support the College Success Office.

The College Success Office (CSO) provides year-round academic, administrative, and emotional support, as well as financial and career preparation, to participants in HCZ’s Promise Academy high schools and afterschool programs. Our mission is to ensure our participants have the resources and guidance they need to succeed in college and beyond. The main components of the CSO include: scholar outreach, academic support and guidance, financial aid advisement, college transfer assistance, summer and winter internship opportunities, and community building efforts within our program.

We are currently seeking two program coordinators, one for our Promise Academy scholars and another for our Zone After-School Programs. The College Preparatory Program Coordinators provide leadership, supervision, and strategic oversight for the College Preparatory Program team serving HCZ’s Promise Academy scholars or the team serving our Zone After-School programs. The Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of college preparation, college access, matriculation, and postsecondary transition programming by supervising a team of College Preparatory Program Counselors and establishing best practices across either Promise Academy or the Zone After-School programs.

The ideal candidate is an experienced college access professional with demonstrated success in staff supervision, program development, cross-functional collaboration, and data-driven decision-making. This individual will lead initiatives that promote a strong college-going culture, strengthen scholar and family engagement, and increase postsecondary enrollment and persistence outcomes for HCZ scholars.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree (master's preferred) in Higher Education, School Counseling, Educational Leadership, Student Affairs, Social Work, or a related field required.
- At least 2-3+ years of experience in college admissions, college counseling, student advising, and the use of data-driven methods to increase scholar admission to and matriculation into college.

Who you are

- Knowledge of admissions, enrollment policies, financial aid, and postsecondary education.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to complete tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook.
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the program, including evenings, some weekends, and travel as required on weekdays and weekends.

What you'll do

- Supervise, coach, and support a team of College Preparatory Program Counselors, and ensure the consistent implementation of college-preparation services across assigned Zone high school after-school sites or in collaboration with Promise Academy school leadership.
- Implement college-preparation strategies, policies, and procedures to support scholar enrollment and success in postsecondary education.
- Provide ongoing training, professional development, and guidance to College Preparatory Program Counselors on college admissions, financial aid, and college counseling best practices.
- Develop and facilitate college-related classes for scholars during Day School hours.
- Partner with leadership and program staff to support scholars' college planning needs, including college fairs, FAFSA workshops, college signing celebrations, and other college transition initiatives.
- Develop and facilitate workshops for scholars and families on college admissions, financial aid, scholarships, and postsecondary opportunities
- Monitor college application, enrollment, and matriculation data to identify trends and improve program outcomes.
- Coordinate program events, including college fairs, FAFSA workshops, college signing celebrations, and other college transition initiatives.
- Support and maintain partnerships with colleges and universities to expand opportunities for scholars.
- Remain abreast of trends in higher education, college admissions, and financial aid to ensure timely and relevant information is shared with scholars, families, and staff.
- Collaborate with the Evaluation team to track scholar outcomes and assess program effectiveness.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule

- Monday - Friday ; schedule may vary (e.g., 8 am - 4 pm or 11 am - 7 pm) based on scholar and program needs.
- Some weekends and evenings, depending on site needs and events; occasional travels

We offer competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package. The salary range is $70,000 to $80,000.
