Job Description:

This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Researcher position for CEOAS at Oregon State University (OSU).

This student researcher will assist with lab experiments in underwater acoustics and remote sensing, gaining experience and knowledge in ocean measurement technologies.  Specific duties may vary dependent on project needs.  May include occasional field work.

Position Duties

- Perform lab experiments under supervisor direction; analyze data and produce reports; write instrument software using Matlab and other languages; generate documentation of lab procedures; assist with field instrument deployments and data collection

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

- Must be proficient in the use of the Matlab programming language, and at least one other programming language.
- Requires a fundamental understanding of active acoustic sonar principles, including the use and calibration of sonar equipment in the lab.
- Position includes occasional field work; must be comfortable working outdoors and in inclement weather

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the  Office of International Services  (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Required

Preferred

- Experience/coursework in vector calculus and/or frequency domain analysis.
- Experience working with electronics test equipment.
- Experience working within the Linux operating system.

# Working Conditions/Schedule:
- Work is primarily in a lab environment, though data analysis tasks may be performed remotely.
- Scheduled in-person meetings with supervisor to occur at least once per week when experiments are active.
- Working schedule is up to approximately 8 hours per week, varying dependent on project needs.
