Job Description:
This recruitment will be used to fill one to two part-time (8-15 hours per week, with the option of working up to 24 hours depending on other student employees’ schedules) Student Office Assistant position(s) at the Department of Agricultural Education, Communication, and Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU).
The person in this position will manage the front desk, responding to walk-in, telephone and email inquiries. The person in this position will perform general office tasks including sorting and distributing of mail, data entry, inventory, and cleaning the office space. Other duties include helping students schedule advising appointments and working on short term and long term projects for faculty in the department.
Position Duties
- 40% Receptionist Duties Manage the front desk, connecting with visitors and department faculty by greeting and assisting them. Support and direct visitors by answering their inquiries in-person and via phone and email
- Guide students on how to schedule advising appointments with their advisor or how to register for classes
- 40% Daily Office Tasks Identify daily office tasks that need to be accomplished, including prioritizing the sorting and distributing of department mail
- Maintain clean and tidy lobby and public office spaces, including taking out recycling
- Coordinate paperwork and review office supply inventory, identifying when supplies need to be purchased or restocked.
Partner with faculty to make copies as needed. Maintain copier supplies.
- Connect with administrative manager to accomplish other daily office tasks as needed
- 20% Data Entry/Faculty Projects Generate spreadsheets, compiling or monitoring data for faculty - an example could be collecting information about advising appointments
- Compile data for faculty data entry projects
- Partner on special projects as assigned with faculty - examples include printing and cutting of class materials, checking for accessibility of links in Canvas sites, or researching websites for specific information

Qualifications:

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Required
- Available to work fall 2026 - spring 2027, with the option to continue to work the next academic year if still a student and performing well
- Must be able to work at least 8 hours/week (Monday-Friday 8 am - 5:00 pm)
- Must be reliable and adhere to an assigned, long-term work schedule
- Demonstrates attention to detail and independent work style

- Ability to learn new software
Preferred
- Fall work availability aligns with needed times
- Experience with MIcrosoft office suite programs (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Currently available work study award in term of hire (this is a financial aid award)
- Current student at Oregon State University
