SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

Jotun has achieved a leading position internationally in the decorative paint market by developing high-performing premium paints. The product development for the South-East Asia Pacific region is carried out at our Regional R&D Center in Shah Alam, Malaysia.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated R&D Technician to support Decorative R&D activities through practical paint application, sample preparation, and product testing. Through accurate application work, careful observation, and reliable laboratory support, the R&D Technician contributes to product development, product maintenance, and continuous improvement of decorative paints for the South-East Asia Pacific region.

This position will be reporting to the Regional R&D Manager – Decorative Interior SEAP and will be based in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Job Responsibilities:

- Support chemists in preparing and carrying out application testing for Decorative paints at the R&D Centre or external test sites when required.

- Prepare substrates, panels, paint samples, and paint systems, and apply coatings using suitable tools and methods to evaluate application properties, finish quality, and product performance.

- Maintain application rooms, raw materials, packaging, equipment, and laboratory areas under safe, proper, and repeatable conditions, while recording and reporting test results clearly.

- Prepare, test, and evaluate Decorative R&D products, paints, binders, and raw materials according to chemist requests or project plans.

- Support project work by recording, reporting, and communicating test results clearly.

- Maintain raw materials, packaging, equipment, and laboratory areas while following safety requirements and performing other assigned lab duties.

Job Requirements​:

- Vocational Certificate, Diploma or equivalent practical experience in painting, coating application, laboratory work or other related hands-on technical fields.

- Able to communicate clearly in Bahasa Malaysia and has basic working knowledge of English for simple reporting, documentation, and daily communication.

- Comfortable with practical, hands-on work such as sample preparation, paint application, testing, cleaning, and organizing materials.

- Candidates with practical hands-on skills, a careful working attitude, and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply. Training and guidance will be provided.
