Software Engineering Internship (Summer 2027)

Amca is building America’s new industrial base. Since the 1990s, our ability to build new aviation and military systems and maintain the ones we already have has eroded. Today, the gap between what the nation needs to produce and what it is capable of producing is the largest it has been in generations.

To help close that gap, Amca rapidly develops and manufactures new critical components and subsystems required to build and sustain the planes, military vehicles, and core infrastructure America needs. Today, we operate seven factories nationwide, including our advanced prototyping and testing headquarters in El Segundo, and deliver avionics, hydraulic, and electrical components for platforms such as the F-35, F-16, F/A-18, 737MAX, 787, A320neo, A321, Mk-48, and M1 Abrams.

Overview:

Amca is hiring software engineering interns to build the systems that turn decades of engineering knowledge into structured, usable data. The work broadly falls into two areas: software that digitizes, labels, and organizes millions of technical drawings, designs, and engineering documents, and a custom software suite that makes engineers and factory teams faster across the factories and Protoshop.

Interns work on real production problems with real users on the other end. The tools built here shape how quickly hardware gets designed, built, and shipped.

Responsibilities:

- Build pipelines that ingest, digitize, label, and structure large volumes of technical drawings, CAD files, and engineering documentation

- Develop internal tools that speed up engineering and manufacturing workflows across the factories and Protoshop

- Design and ship features end to end, from backend services and data storage to front-end interfaces

- Work directly with engineers and production teams to understand their bottlenecks and turn them into software

- Improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of existing systems

- Write clean, tested, well-documented code and take part in code review

Basic qualifications:

- Are currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, computer or software engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related field

- Have a solid grasp of algorithms and data structures, and can apply them to messy, large-scale problems

- Have working familiarity with storage systems, cloud infrastructure, and front-end frameworks

- Learn quickly, pick up unfamiliar tools without hand-holding, and take ownership of what you build

- Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical teammates

Hourly Pay Range $30 — $50 USD
