Job Description:

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Project Coordinator coordinates planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting for SHRCRNP community climate resilience and livelihood activities. Based in Western Highlands, the role guides Project Officers and field teams, coordinates technical and partner inputs, monitors budgets and compliance, and oversees delivery of nature- and ecosystem-based solutions, climate-smart agriculture, community-based disaster risk reduction, market access and economic development initiatives. The Coordinator promotes inclusive participation, safeguarding and accountability, using project evidence and learning to improve delivery and achieve agreed results.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Prepare consolidated implementation plans, schedules and delivery targets with Project Officers, field teams and technical specialists, aligned with the approved project design and budget.
- Coordinate community needs assessments and planning for nature- and ecosystem-based solutions, climate-smart agriculture, disaster risk reduction, market access and economic development.
- Coordinate government, partner and community engagement; clarify responsibilities, maintain delivery schedules and resolve operational issues within delegated authority.
- Oversee implementation of climate mitigation and adaptation activities, ensuring technical standards, inclusive participation and agreed project approaches are applied.
- Guide and supervise assigned Project Officers and field teams; review monthly workplans, organise field schedules and provide regular coaching and feedback.
- Coordinate timely consultation with technical specialists on agriculture, ecosystem restoration, livelihoods, disaster risk and market access; escalate technical issues requiring specialist decisions.
- Conduct regular field visits and review activity quality, progress, risks and delivery constraints with project staff and partners.
- Work with the Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator to align monitoring tools and reporting requirements, support field data collection and verify implementation records.
- Review progress against workplans, outputs and expenditure; maintain action and risk trackers and recommend changes for authorised approval.
- Coordinate field logistics, procurement requests and resource allocation with administration, procurement and finance teams, following approved procedures.
- Promote gender equality, disability and social inclusion in implementation; monitor practical access barriers affecting women, youth and people with disabilities.
- Coordinate operational support for assessments, baselines and evaluations with the MEAL team, including community engagement, field access and response to findings.
- Monitor the activity budget and expenditure, review supporting documents and forecasts, and follow up variances with finance and the project manager.
- Maintain grant, financial and operational compliance; apply procurement and approval limits and report suspected misuse or non-compliance through authorised channels.
- Ensure staff and partners apply safeguarding, consent and confidentiality requirements; refer child or adult protection concerns immediately through designated channels.
- Coordinate accessible information sharing, consultations and safe feedback channels with the MEAL team; monitor follow-up and share authorised responses with communities.
- Consolidate and review monthly progress reports, assessment findings and milestone evidence; submit complete reports to the authorised manager within agreed deadlines.
- Facilitate monthly learning and reflection sessions, present progress at relevant meetings and document lessons, case studies and agreed improvements with verified evidence and required consent.
- Train and coach field staff on monthly work planning, documentation and reporting; identify capacity gaps and arrange relevant support.
- Participate in relevant internal and external coordination meetings and follow up decisions with assigned staff and partners.
- Attend relevant training and undertake other project coordination duties assigned by the supervisor within the scope of the role.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION/SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Project Management, or related field.
- Diploma in Project Management or equivalent relevant project management training.
- At least three years of project management experience in community development, relief or development programmes.
- Experience coordinating project design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and report writing.
- Experience supervising and coaching field staff and coordinating partners, technical specialists and community stakeholders.
- Practical experience monitoring project budgets and applying financial and grant compliance procedures.
- Knowledge of climate-smart and tropical agriculture, nature- and ecosystem-based solutions, community-based disaster risk reduction and livelihood development.
- Good interpersonal skills, cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to coordinate diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Strong written and oral English, report preparation and presentation skills. Tok Pisin is an advantage.
- Computer literacy, including spreadsheets, work planning and budget tracking.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, inclusive community engagement and accountability practices.
- Experience working with partners in Papua New Guinea, particularly the Highlands, is an advantage.
- Willingness to travel to remote project communities and follow field safety procedures.
- Flexibility to work outside normal hours when required and undertake other relevant duties within the scope of the role.
