Job Description:

Job Purpose
The Nurse Mentor provides clinical mentorship, coaching, and supportive supervision to nurses and other healthcare workers to improve the quality of patient care in the clinics. The role focuses on strengthening clinical competencies, promoting compliance to national guidelines and standards, enhancing service delivery, and supporting continuous quality improvement within healthcare facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Mentorship and Capacity Building

- Provide on-site clinical mentoring and coaching to nurses and other healthcare workers.
- Assess staff training needs and develop mentorship plans.
- Support skills transfer through case reviews, demonstrations, and clinical discussions.
- Facilitate continuous professional development and in-service training sessions.
- Orient newly recruited clinical staff to facility protocols and standards.

Quality of Care Improvement

- Promote adherence to national clinical guidelines, policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Conduct regular clinical audits and chart reviews.
- Identify gaps in service delivery and support corrective action plans.
- Support implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Monitor key performance indicators and recommend interventions for improved outcomes.

Technical Services

- Strengthen delivery of HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and retention services.
- Support TB screening, diagnosis, treatment initiation, and follow-up.
- Promote integrated management of chronic diseases and primary health care services.
- Ensure infection prevention and control standards are maintained.

Data Management and Reporting

- Support accurate clinical documentation and record keeping.
- Review routine health information data for completeness and quality.
- Analyze performance trends and provide feedback to facility teams.
- Prepare mentorship reports inline with the institutional strengthening plan and work plans

Stakeholder Collaboration

- Work closely with facility management, regional health teams, and implementing partners.
- Participate in technical working groups, review meetings, and supportive supervision visits.
- Support coordination of training and mentorship activities across facilities.

Qualifications and Experience

- Registered Nurse with a valid professional practicing license.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related health field preferred.
- Certification in NARTIS (Nurse-Led Antiretroviral Therapy Initiation) or Formal training in HIV/AIDS
- Minimum of 5-8 years of clinical nursing experience.
- Previous experience in clinical mentoring, coaching, or supportive supervision is an advantage.
- Experience working within public health programs and quality improvement initiatives.
