Position Purpose
The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing daily grocery department operations, including inventory management, merchandising, customer service, associate development, and operational execution. This position helps ensure the department achieves sales, labor, shrink, and customer satisfaction goals while maintaining in-stock conditions, attractive displays, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
Department Operations
- Assist in managing daily grocery department operations to ensure efficient execution and customer satisfaction.
- Support stocking, replenishment, merchandising, and inventory control processes.
- Ensure shelves, end caps, and promotional displays are fully stocked, properly signed, and merchandised according to company standards.
- Monitor department conditions, cleanliness, and organization throughout the store.
- Support execution of company initiatives, seasonal programs, and promotional events.
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to grocery associates.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and developing associates.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and customer service excellence.
- Monitor associate productivity and provide feedback to support performance improvement.
- Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Grocery Manager.
Inventory & Merchandising
- Assist with ordering, receiving, stocking, and inventory management activities.
- Ensure proper product rotation and inventory control procedures are followed.
- Monitor out-of-stock conditions and coordinate replenishment efforts.
- Maintain accurate pricing, signage, and promotional execution.
- Help reduce shrink through proper handling, rotation, and inventory practices.
Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional customer service and ensure customer needs are met promptly.
- Assist customers with product inquiries, product locations, and special requests.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and effectively.
- Support a customer-focused culture throughout the department.
Financial Performance
- Support achievement of department sales, labor, profitability, and shrink objectives.
- Assist in monitoring department performance metrics and operational reports.
- Support labor planning and scheduling efforts.
- Identify and communicate opportunities to improve departmental performance.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and operational procedures.
- Promote workplace safety and proper use of equipment.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
- Support department readiness for audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
