Purpose of the Position

The Senior Associate Technical Consultant, Water Scientist (Agriculture / Irrigation Agronomist) is responsible for agricultural and irrigation-related assessments within water resource and irrigation development projects. The role focuses on crop planning, agricultural productivity, irrigation water requirements, agricultural economics, and evaluation of project benefits associated with irrigated agriculture.

2. Reporting Line

The position reports directly to the Project Manager or Lead Water Resources Specialist.

3. Qualifications

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Irrigation Engineering, Agricultural Economics, Water Resources Management, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in irrigation, agriculture, and water resources projects.
- Experience in irrigation development, agricultural productivity assessments, and crop water requirement analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of agricultural planning and irrigation management software is preferred.
- Good command of English.

II. Key Responsibilities

Agricultural Assessment

- Assess existing and proposed cropping patterns within project areas.
- Analyze agricultural production systems and farming practices.
- Evaluate crop yields and agricultural productivity.
- Identify opportunities for agricultural intensification and diversification.

Irrigation and Water Demand Analysis

- Estimate crop water requirements and irrigation demands.
- Assess irrigation scheduling and water allocation requirements.
- Analyze irrigation efficiency and water productivity.
- Support development of water balance and irrigation demand models.

Agricultural Benefits Evaluation

- Conduct agricultural benefit assessments for irrigation and water infrastructure projects.
- Evaluate economic impacts of improved irrigation systems on agricultural production.
- Estimate increases in crop yields, farm income, and agricultural productivity resulting from project implementation.
- Contribute to cost-benefit analyses and economic feasibility studies.

Data Collection and Analysis

- Collect and analyze agricultural and irrigation-related data.
- Review agricultural statistics, climate data, and water use information.
- Perform quantitative and qualitative assessments to support project studies.
- Prepare technical calculations and reports.

Project Support

- Support feasibility studies, master plans, and irrigation modernization projects.
- Collaborate with water engineers, economists, environmental specialists, and project teams.
- Participate in field visits, stakeholder consultations, and technical meetings.
- Provide technical inputs for project reports and presentations.
