Broadcast Operations has an outstanding opportunity for a Director of Broadcast Operations to join their team.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director of Broadcast Operations the Director of Broadcast Operations is responsible for leading Washington’s Big Ten Network Student U program. This position will also oversee the hiring, development, and mentoring of student employees and assist in areas of live press conferences, in-venue broadcasts, and video engineering efforts.

This position will be on-site and require evening, weekend, and holiday work.

Key Responsibilities

30% - Oversee live streams for athletic events to the B1G+ platform. Occasionally filling in positions if necessary.

30% - Recruit, hire, train, staff, and mentor student staff.

15% - Collaborate with outside partners to execute broadcast requirements.

15% - Advance broadcast operations workflow with emerging technology and production practices.

10% - Assist, as needed, in the areas of in-house video production.

This position manages employees: student employees, part-time staff, and game-day personnel.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field.

- A minimum of 2 years of experience in an Operational or Broadcast Engineering role in the collegiate or professional sports industry.

Additional Qualifications

- Demonstrated knowledge of video fiber infrastructure and connectivity between venues.

- Knowledge of fiber optic and radio frequency video signal transmission systems.

- Ability to be resourceful, research equipment documentation and solutions to problems, and be proactive in systems issues prevention and resolution.

- Experience with running multiple shows concurrently.

- Professional operating experience with video switchers, audio consoles, replay and graphics machines.

- Specific in-depth experience with broadcast technical or engineering work.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in both control-room and in-field engineering situations and have a demonstrated passion for teaching and leading student work forces.

- The ideal candidate will also have a proficiency in IT & IP based workflows, common A/V setup & servicing and Daktronics infrastructure.

- While not required, candidates with specific broadcasting or engineering certifications will strongly be considered.

- Working knowledge of university, conference, and NCAA rules.

Working Conditions

- Due to the large emphasis on event support, this position includes many nights and weekends above and beyond daily responsibilities. Ability to work a flexible schedule, be on-call, support productions remotely as needed, and work sporting events and events that may occur on holidays and weekends.

- This position performs essential services and may be required to work during any period of declared suspended operation.

- Ability to work in outside environments year-round.

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:
$80,172.00 annual
Pay Range Maximum:
$84,000.00 annual
Other Compensation:
- Taxable benefits include tickets to UW Intercollegiate home competitions. - Non-local candidates may be eligible for a moving allowance.
