Construction Manager, Australia

Summary:

This role reports to the Head of E&C Australia and supports the full delivery cycle of EDP Renewables' Australian solar, wind and battery storage projects: from Investment Memo and/or start of EPC tender up to the handover to Operations & Maintenance, while supporting all the activities in between (pre-construction, construction, commissioning).

The role helps ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, on target in terms of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality, in accordance with the Company Business Plan and E&C Department requirements.

Responsibilities:

Engineering & Pre-Construction

- Support the Head of E&C Australia across pre-FID and early-development phases of solar, wind and BESS projects, including CAPEX estimation, benchmarking and risk allowances

- Work with Engineering to optimise design and analyse potential solutions to reduce CAPEX while maintaining overall project quality

- Contribute construction input to investment decisions and constructability reviews

- Support EPC / BOP / BESS contracting strategy definition

- Support EOI/RFP evaluation, technical leadership during tendering, and bid evaluation and negotiation

- Coordinate effective handover from Development/Engineering into Construction

Construction Phase (Execution & Control)

• Support full accountability for HSE, Quality, Cost and Schedule across active construction sites
• Maintain and update Construction Management Plans and portfolio-wide schedules (e.g. MS Project)
• Monitor and control budget, schedule and risk across multiple concurrent projects
• Support contractor performance management, claims and compliance
• Coordinate interfaces across EPC contractors, equipment suppliers and subcontractors
• Support change order review and approval with strict governance
• Provide construction management coverage across the portfolio as priorities shift between projects

Commissioning & Pre-Operations

- Support commissioning and operational testing activities

- Track punch list closure and compliance verification

- Support handover dossier preparation

- Support contractor close-out and Take Over Certificates

- Support handover of projects to Operations & Maintenance

Stakeholder & Interface Management

- Manage relationships with internal engineering, procurement, legal and finance teams

- Manage relationships with external EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, lenders and consultants

- Ensure structured communication and reporting across the portfolio

Technical & Due Diligence Support

- Support technical due diligence for new project acquisitions and FID processes

- Provide construction feedback to engineering and design to reduce delivery risk

- Support design and constructability optimisation

Strategy & Continuous Improvement

- Support development of construction standards and best practices across the Australian portfolio

- Capture and apply lessons learned across projects

Compliance & Governance

- Ensure compliance with HSE and regulatory standards across all supported projects

- Maintain documentation and audit readiness

Requirements:

- Bachelor's or Graduate Degree in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

- 5 and above years of experience managing utility-scale renewable energy (solar, wind and/or BESS) construction projects.

- Strong Excel / data analysis skills

- Driving license is mandatory

- Travelling often (regular travel to project sites mainly across NSW and QLD)

- Experience managing EPC contractor relationships

- Solar, Wind and Battery Storage electrical infrastructure design & construction background, standards

- Familiarity with the Australian energy market and regulatory framework (AEMO, NSW/QLD/WA TSOs, state planning and development approval processes)

- Understanding of typical EPC contract structures and clauses in the Australian market

- Project Management & business orientation covering the whole value chain from different perspectives is preferred

- Management and Reporting tools (Excel, Word, Microsoft Project, Power BI, Outlook…)

- User level of any of the following engineering software: AutoCAD, ArcGIS, PVCase, PVSyst, Global Mapper, ...

- Experience with monitoring tools and planning & control methodologies is a plus
