Teledyne Technologies Incorporated provides enabling technologies for industrial growth markets that require advanced technology and high reliability. These markets include aerospace and defense, factory automation, air and water quality environmental monitoring, electronics design and development, oceanographic research, deepwater oil and gas exploration and production, medical imaging and pharmaceutical research.
We are looking for individuals who thrive on making an impact and want the excitement of being on a team that wins.
Job Description
Company Overview
Teledyne e2v is a global leader in specialised components and subsystems for innovative solutions in medical, science, aerospace, defense, and industrial applications. The imaging sensors developed and tested at the Chelmsford site have been used on humanities most important space imaging missions. These include the Hubble Telescope, Keplar, GAIA, Mars Rovers, New Horizons, and Rosetta to name but a few.
Space Imaging is expanding its portfolio of projects to develop Front End Electronics (FEE) systems for Space applications. The systems will include a CMOS detector and FEE as a complete system. The new systems require high quality FPGA designs coupled with high speed hardware designs to operate in Space with high reliability for 5-year long missions or longer.
Position Summary and Responsibilities
Teledyne e2v are looking for an Electronics Engineer to join their Team. The engineer will work in multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver test equipment and FEE solutions. Doing so will require acquiring an intimate knowledge of how our current and new devices operate. We are happy to accept applicants with either an electrical hardware or FPGA bias, and the job role is open to all levels of engineering seniority within the electronics team.
For applicants with a FPGA bias, we need a practical ability to write FPGA code and drive new FPGA development for the next generation of FEE products for space. Existing FPGA designs are typically produced using VHDL using Microchip Libero and Xilinx Vivado. The engineer would work on both FPGA design and verification, including the design and step-up of test benches.
For applications with an electrical hardware bias, we need an engineer to engage with the entire life cycle. This is from requirements review, through to schematic design, layout, board testing, and system level verification.
The Engineer will provide bid and business development support in collaboration with other team members. This level of support will include reviewing and specifying technical proposals, conducting trade-off analyses and supplying estimates for effort and material cost.
Essential Experience
For applicants with a FPGA bias:
- Industrial design of FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) in VHDL language.
- Use of Microchip Libero and/or Xilinx Vivado design environments.
- Functional verification using self-checking test benches and simulation.
- Timing verification using timing constraints and analysis.
- Generate solutions, estimates, and define individual tasks for FPGA product delivery.
- Authoring required documentation, including requirements specifications, detailed design documents, technical reports, test specifications, user manuals, work instructions, etc.
- Use of electronic test equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, logic analyser)
- You will be responsible for end-to-end FPGA development, maintenance, and lifecycle to achieve project goals to the required level of quality. You will work closely with Software, Electronics and Systems Engineers to architect solutions to meet customer requirements.
For applicants with an Electronics bias:
- Respond rapidly to equipment issues using your electronics knowledge and experience. Working to ensure that a timely repair is carried out, and clear progress updates are provided to the production teams.
- When solving complex issues on existing equipment, lead cross functional teams within Teledyne and external engineers, recording actions and minutes of meetings.
- Full PCB design for space applications using Altium, including component selection, schematic capture, analysis, documentation, stack-up definition, and administration of external layout activity.
- Preparation and presentation of concepts and designs that meet the requirements specifications, driven both by internal and external customer needs. Maintain and update compliance verification matrix with respect to electrical requirements.
- Capturing detailed system architecture by way of interface diagrams and charts; using them to embellish lifecycle documentation to navigate through gate reviews and progress the development efficiently.
- Preparing and presenting all necessary documentation relevant to the electrical design for gate reviews, both internal and external. The engineer will be expected to communicate clearly and effectively to all stakeholders.
- Taking a strong lead with verification and testing of electronics, and preparation of well-structured and clear associated documentation.
- Soldering and associated tasks for in-house PCB population.
Advantageous Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in design for Spaceflight/Aerospace/Defense.
- Working knowledgeable of ECSS standards and development processes.
- Knowledge of PCB design approaches required when dealing with Hi-Speed circuitry.
- High speed (Gigabit) transceiver interfaces.
- FPGA design techniques for high reliability and radiation environments.
- Requirement verification using UVVM test bench methodology.
- Working knowledge of SpaceWire and RMAP/CCSDS protocols.
- Image handling and processing.
- Experience with Version Control and Issue tracking Software.
- Developing Integration test software and scripts.
- DDR3/4 memory and AXI interfaces.
