Substation Production Supervisor – Physical Design (Forest Park)

This position will be located at the General Service HQ in Forest Park, GA

JOB SUMMARY

This position reports to the Substation Physical Design Manager for Southern Company Services, Technical Shared Services, Substation Engineering and is based in Forest Park, GA. The Substation Physical Design group is responsible for engineering, design, and coordination of substation projects including development of detailed design packages, material specifications, and vendor qualification and approval. This position provides support for construction activities, for operational or maintenance problems, and serves as a resource in emergency restoration of failed equipment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

- Make safety our number one priority using a “Safety First” mentality and leading by example.
- Lead the activities of Physical Design group to ensure high productivity, excellent quality of design, and the proper use of resources to meet project schedules.
- Serve as the primary interface for our opco clients, internal design teams, and other business partners.
- Select and develop top talent for the Physical Design team.
- Assign resources to projects, ensure appropriate design durations, and ensure schedule commitments are met.
- Participate in, support, or lead initiatives for Substation Engineering and Power Delivery.
- Support the development of design standards and criteria for use on the Southern Company System.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to employees for daily activities in Physical Design.
- Develop and support a strong and effective team environment within Substation Engineering and with operating company partners.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

- BS degree in engineering preferred -OR- other degree with applicable experience.
- Professional Engineer license preferred.
- Experience with design, maintenance, or operation of substations in the power utility environment.

- Ability to coach and develop technical personnel.
- Extensive problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain peer and customer relationships across organizations.
- Ability to make authoritative decisions and take necessary action in routine and emergency situations.
- Ability to use TEAMS, STOMP, AutoCAD, SCST Vault, and other necessary computer design tools.
