We are looking for a new team member who is eager to make a real difference! As a Flight Simulation Software Engineer (Software Architect for Simulation Environments), you will be responsible for designing and building the simulation environments in which our autonomous air defense systems are developed, tested, and validated, connecting flight simulators with our software stack to enable realistic, repeatable testing long before systems take off.

Your roadmap to make an impact

- Own the architecture of our simulation environments, building the software that connects flight simulators such as X-Plane and Flight Simulator with our autonomy and onboard software
- Build and extend plugins, interfaces, and bridges that feed realistic flight behavior, sensor data, and mission scenarios into our systems
- Enable software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing so GNC, embedded, and autonomy teams can validate new features quickly, safely, and repeatably
- Raise engineering standards through design, code review, and close collaboration with GNC engineers. They bring the models and algorithms, you build the simulation software that brings them to life

Requirements

Technical skills

- Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience, plus 3+ years of professional software development (no GNC background required, this is a software-first role)
- Hands-on experience building software for flight simulators such as X-Plane, Microsoft Flight Simulator, or Airbus flight simulation environments (e.g. plugins, SDKs, data interfaces)
- Strong C++ skills for simulation and performance-critical software
- Strong Python skills for tooling, scenario scripting, and test automation
- Solid Linux experience, including development, debugging, and deployment on Linux-based systems
- Experience designing modular, extensible software architectures for simulation or test environments

Soft Skills

- Comfortable working in Scrum or similar agile teams
- Strong software craftsmanship: testing, debugging, code review, and clear communication in English (German a plus)
- Ownership mindset, you take responsibility for the simulation environment end to end and make sure it works reliably for every team

Nice to Have

- Experience with ROS or ROS 2 (nodes, topics, services)
- Familiarity with other simulation tools and frameworks (e.g. Gazebo, JSBSim, FlightGear, AirSim)
- Experience with SITL/HIL setups, ideally with PX4, ArduPilot, or similar autopilot frameworks
- Familiarity with MAVLink or similar vehicle/telemetry protocols
- Experience simulating sensors such as cameras, IMUs, or radar
- Automated simulation-based testing integrated into CI pipelines
- Basic understanding of flight dynamics or GNC concepts (helpful, but not required)
- Prior work in aerospace, robotics, autonomous systems, or defense
- Willingness to travel occasionally for on-site integration and test campaigns
