About the role

This exciting role will provide you with exposure to live engineering projects, helping you build your technical knowledge, design skills and understanding of how electrical infrastructure projects progress from early feasibility and planning through to the development of engineering designs, drawings and technical documentation.

Working alongside experienced engineers and technicians, you will support the delivery of electrical infrastructure projects, including substations, underground cables, transmission and distribution networks projects, grid connections and generation projects.

You will report to the director of our energy group and receive guidance and support from our talented engineering team.

In addition to on-the-job learning, you will be provided with access to training opportunities, formal and informal.

Key responsibilities

- Support the preparation and update of substation layouts, plans, sections and elevation drawings
- Assist with underground cable route studies, including reviewing potential route options and identifying constraints
- Review maps, drawings and available project information to identify existing utilities and services and potential cable routes
- Assist with grid connection and electrical infrastructure assessments
- Help prepare technical reports, route assessment documents and other project documentation

Essential

- A degree in electrical engineering, electrical energy engineering, power systems engineering, energy engineering or a related discipline. (Level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent)
- A strong understanding of electrical engineering principles
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Excellent attention to detail
- Willingness to learn, ask questions and take guidance
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency/high level of proficiency in spoken and written English

Desirable

- Knowledge of AutoCAD
- Knowledge of Google Earth Pro
