About this role
The Senior Director for Ancillary & Medical Device Technology provides strategic and operational leadership for technology services, systems, and applications supporting clinical ancillary services, medical device-related technologies, symptom management, clinical pathways, and quality & patient safety functions, within Information Services. Reporting to the Vice President, Epic & Clinical Hospital Operations, this role sets direction for governance, prioritization, execution, and cross-functional alignment across both day-to-day operations and future-state planning. The Senior Director partners closely with clinical, operational, quality, patient safety, biomedical, and technical leaders along with external partners to ensure technology strategies, support models, implementation priorities advance Institute goals and evolving models of care and transformation. This leader is responsible for fostering strong internal and external partnerships, establishing clear decision-making and escalation processes, and driving portfolio alignment, execution, readiness and performance. In a highly complex, matrixed environment, the role also provides oversight for delivery outcomes, risk management, and team leadership.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the ancillary and medical device technology portfolio. Provide strategic and operational leadership for systems and services that support ancillary and medical device-related functions, including pharmacy, clinical laboratory, blood and blood donor, imaging, symptom management, clinical pathways and patient safety domains. Ensure portfolio plans, priorities, and sequencing align with enterprise objectives, operational requirements, and future-state planning.
- Establish governance and cross-functional partnership models. Create and lead governance processes, decision forums, and escalation paths that support aligned planning and execution across technical teams, operational leadership, clinical stakeholders, quality and patient safety leaders and external partners.
- Guide technology planning and readiness. Lead planning for new capabilities, innovations, upgrades, integrations, workflow improvements, and service enhancements. Partner across internal and external technology teams and operational and clinical functions to define scope, dependencies, governance, KPIs, timing, and readiness needs for initiatives with operational and strategic impact.
- Provide oversight of delivery, operational performance, and risk across the portfolio. Establish expectations and standards for program oversight, status reporting, issue management, escalation, and execution across multiple initiatives and workstreams. Make recommendations related to resource allocation, sequencing, and risk mitigation within established governance and budget parameters. Ensure work is executed in a way that supports reliability, scalability, and alignment with Institute priorities.
- Lead teams responsible for ancillary and medical device technology delivery. Direct a function that includes project managers, business analysts, and other team members supporting operational support, build coordination, requirements analysis, business case development, testing strategy, stakeholder impact analysis and communication plans, and related program delivery activities. Ensure team efforts remain aligned with governance decisions, portfolio priorities, and changing organizational needs.
- Drive cross-functional communication, stakeholder engagement, and influence. Build and maintain strong working relationships with Information Services, clinical and operational leaders, quality and patient safety stakeholders, and external partners. Communicate strategy, decisions, risks, dependencies, and impacts clearly to support alignment, resolve competing priorities, and enable coordinated execution across teams.
- Supervise, develop, and support staff. Recruit, lead, and develop a high-performing team. Set clear expectations, provide coaching and feedback, evaluate performance, and promote accountability for quality, efficiency, outcomes, and compliance with organizational policies and procedures. Foster staff engagement, professional growth, and a collaborative, inclusive work environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders in a large, highly complex, matrixed organization.
- Knowledge of the relationships and operational interdependencies among clinical, operational, ancillary, and Information Services functions as they relate to program planning and execution.
- Ability to lead a complex and evolving technology portfolio with accountability for strategy, governance, prioritization, and execution oversight within a matrixed governance framework.
- Ability to balance immediate operational needs with long-term strategic priorities, particularly in environments undergoing growth, transformation, or hospital planning.
- Ability to assess organizational impact and make sound recommendations based on clinical, operational, technical, financial, and stakeholder considerations.
- Ability to build alignment across internal and external stakeholders and drive coordinated action on initiatives with significant operational and strategic implications.
- Ability to make sound decisions within broad strategic guidance, anticipate risks, identify when escalation is needed, and balance competing priorities and constraints.
- Ability to integrate technology planning across multiple operational domains to support cohesive workflows and improved staff experience.

Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Business, Information Technology Management, Healthcare Administration, Life Sciences or related field of study.
- Master’s degree in Business, Information Technology Management, Healthcare Administration or related field of study preferred.
- 10 years application/platform implementation delivery experience, with progressively increasing responsibility and scope of initiatives managed, with proven ability to drive teams to meet objectives required.
- 8 years of people management experience, including direct supervision of staff required
- Experience in healthcare, academic medical center, or clinical operations settings required.
- Progressive leadership experience in a complex environment with responsibility for enterprise technology/program oversight, governance, prioritization, cross-functional coordination, and staff leadership required.
- Relevant experience should include directing work with daily operational impact and long-term strategic implications, managing teams that perform support, analysis, testing, and delivery activities, and coordinating with internal stakeholders and external partners
- Experience with overseeing team supporting clinical applications in a healthcare or life sciences environment preferred.
License/Certification/Registration Required: None
Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversees team of 15 FTEs, which will include a team lead/manager to support pharmacy systems and a team lead/manager for laboratory systems. Team structure will evolve to support blood donor and quality and patient safety applications. Additionally, will oversee future manager of medical devices technology space.
