About this role
Reporting to the Vice President, Epic and Clinical Hospital Operations, the Director, Technology Portfolio Delivery and Strategic Initiatives, leads complex, high-visibility technology initiatives that support Dana-Farber’s transition into a new collaboration model and the opening of a new dedicated oncology inpatient cancer hospital. This role directly supports the Senior Vice President, CIO and is responsible for portfolio planning, execution oversight, governance, risk management, and stakeholder coordination across technology, data, and analytics efforts. Working with significant autonomy, the Director partners with senior leaders, operational stakeholders, external partners, and cross-functional teams to align priorities, translate strategy into execution, and drive measurable outcomes in a highly matrixed environment. The role ensures that portfolio goals, deliverables, dependencies, and implementation plans are clearly defined and aligned with institutional priorities. The Director also supports planning, alignment, decision-making, communication, and sustainable transition of completed initiatives into ongoing operations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead a high-visibility portfolio of technology, data, and analytics initiatives that support hospital transformation and the launch of a new inpatient cancer hospital. Drive execution through disciplined program and portfolio management practices, ensuring initiatives remain aligned with institutional, strategic, and operational priorities.
- Partner with business owners, functional leaders, and key stakeholders to define initiative goals, scope, timelines, governance, and success measures. Translate strategic priorities into actionable plans, milestones, and deliverables, while supporting leadership in prioritization, planning, and execution readiness.
- Shape and align annual and long-term portfolio priorities to enable measurable, cross-functional impact. Clarify interdependencies, resource requirements, decision points, and escalation paths, while balancing urgency, risk, resource constraints, and competing demands across initiatives.
- Establish and advance standardized portfolio tools, processes, reporting, and best practices to improve transparency, coordination, consistency, and accountability. Enable clear tracking of initiative status, risks, decisions, action items, and next steps across complex programs.
- Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks, barriers, and interdependencies that may affect delivery. Monitor overall portfolio health, escalate issues as needed to protect timelines and quality, and communicate progress and performance to executive sponsors and other key stakeholders.
- Coordinate delivery across internal teams and external vendors or partners to support integrated, multi-phase initiatives. Oversee transition of completed work to operational owners through handoff planning, knowledge transfer, and adoption support to help ensure sustainable implementation and long-term operational success.
- Support governance forums, planning meetings, trainings, retreats, and other strategic sessions by preparing materials, documenting outcomes, and facilitating follow-up. Track decisions, action items, and communications to maintain alignment and momentum across the portfolio.
- Supervises staff. Hires, develops, and manages staff to achieve organizational goals. Sets clear expectations, delivers feedback, and monitors performance for quality, efficiency, and compliance with policies and procedures. Mentors staff, fosters career growth, and cultivates a positive and productive work environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated expertise in project, program, and portfolio management, strategic planning, and facilitation, with the ability to lead multiple concurrent initiatives in a complex, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information, develop executive-ready materials, and tailor messaging to diverse audiences.
- Strong strategic thinking and business acumen, with the ability to frame large-scale, complex initiatives, connect work to institutional priorities, and support effective decision-making.
- Proven ability to apply change management principles to the implementation of new programs, operating models, and cross-functional ways of working.

Minimum Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Information Technology Management, Healthcare Administration or a related field of study required.
- Master's Degree in Business, Information Technology Management, Healthcare Administration or a related field of study preferred.
- 8 years of project, portfolio, or program management experience delivering large, integrated systems projects required.
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and managing complex programs across multiple sites or institutions required.
- Direct experience overseeing large, multi-phase projects in a matrixed healthcare environment required.
- Experience in healthcare, academic medical center, or clinical operations settings preferred.
License/Certification/Registration Required:
- Project Management Professionals (PMP) Certification required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises team of Project Managers and/or Program Managers. Will also oversee other internal and external cross-functional project resources including temporary/contract staff and vendors.

Pay Transparency Statement
The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.
For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
$161,800.00 - $186,500.00
