Supervisor, Transportation

Summary

Provides leadership and supervisory assistance in the overall direction and administration of the Transportation Department
## Essential Duties

- Supervises school bus operators and operations of designated bus routes in the District

- Coordinates the initial routing procedures for regular transportation, including realignment, adjustment, and continuous maintenance activities

- Routes special buses to service students in the various area of exceptionalities

- Conducts survey designs as required by State Department of Education for fund allocations Inspects the road conditions on bus routes and stops periodically, and makes follow-up recommendations for corrections to any issues that may be found

- Observes buses during routes Investigates accidents involving county vehicles and submits written reports and recommendations to effectively deal with related problems

- Provides a comprehensive training program for bus operators, including safety workshops and instruction in the use and handling of all department vehicles

- Takes an active role in coordinating transportation policies and procedures with individual schools

- Travels to schools to help resolve student discipline or driver-related problems

- Informs Executive Director, Operations and Coordinator regarding irregular situations in the department

- Assists in recruiting, training, and supervising assistant supervisors, certified instructors, dispatchers, bus drivers and transportation assistants

- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the school bus road-e-o concept and supports its use as an instructional tool

- Conducts periodic personal inspections of department vehicles

- Coordinates efforts to secure bus-drivers

- Takes an active role in educating students on school bus safety procedures

- Functions as a bus driver as needed

- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education

Associate's Degree in A related field or equivalent experience (2 years of industry experience = 1 year of college) A combination of experience and education may be used to meet the Associate’s Degree requirement or In lieu of degree, Supervisor certification earned through National Association for Pupil transportation (NAPT) may be considered
## Certification/Licensure

Valid CDL license with S and P endorsements required Must be able to successfully pass State Bus Driver Annual Physical Exam
## Experience Qualifications

Minimum 2 years supervisory and/or administrative experience preferably in transportation, and 3 years of related pupil transportation experience required. Computerized routing experience is a plus

- Good decision-making and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills

- May require exposure to extreme heat/cold

- Routine physical activity associated with normal office and school environment
- May have to lift 50lbs or more if need arises to drive a bus
