Job Description:
Are you a critical thinker with a knack for getting to the bottom of things?

Do you enjoy asking questions, solving problems, and working through the details to understand not only what happened, but why?

Do you enjoy building relationships, helping others learn, and working as part of a team that encourages independent responsibility?

Are you energized by new challenges, managing multiple projects, and finding ways to continuously improve?

As an NPERS Auditor, you’ll do more than check boxes. You’ll examine processes, review records, evaluate internal controls, interpret statutes, rules, and regulations, and determine whether requirements are being followed. When something doesn’t align, you’ll investigate, consider different perspectives, and use research, critical thinking, and sound judgment to work toward a conclusion. You’ll work on specialized projects while becoming a subject matter expert in the retirement plans.

This role offers the opportunity to work independently while being part of a knowledgeable and supportive team. You’ll manage projects, build relationships with employers and staff, explain requirements, and share knowledge—while also listening to feedback and using what you learn to help improve processes, guidance, and internal controls.

The answers aren’t always obvious. That’s where your curiosity, critical-thinking skills, and willingness to work through the gray areas come in. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of your work, develop your own conclusions, collaborate with others, and contribute to meaningful improvements across NPERS.

We are looking for a highly responsible person with an accounting or auditing education who is interested in flexibility to integrate work with your personal life to fulfill the NPERS Auditor position within our Internal Auditor department.

Hiring Rate:
$23.491 - $34.629 per hour
Hourly rate may be commensurate with applicant’s education and experience within fiscal constraints if approved.

State employment offers great benefits!

During your first year here at NPERS, you'll receive:

• 13 paid holidays per year
• 12 days of vacation and sick leave per year
• Retirement contributions matched at 156%
• 79% of your medical insurance premiums covered by your employer

Do you have student loans? We are also a qualifying employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).

Job duties include:

·  Lead the analysis and compilation of essential data from Retirement Plan employers to ensure full compliance with evolving retirement regulations.

·  Conduct in-depth research to confirm eligibility criteria are met for plan members, ensuring accurate reporting of contributions, compensation, and service credit.

·  Collaborate with employer contacts to provide expert guidance and insightful feedback on the outcomes of their retirement audits.

·  Foster clear communication with employers and staff through both verbal, video, and written exchanges, ensuring all stakeholders are informed and aligned.

·  Report key findings to both the Internal Auditor and external auditors, contributing to the overall transparency and integrity of the retirement plan.

·  Evaluate and optimize internal processes and operational workflows to enhance efficiency and ensure seamless audits.

·  Offer mentorship and hands-on support to staff, fostering a collaborative environment and encouraging professional growth.

·  Take on additional responsibilities and contribute to special projects as needed, adapting to changing organizational needs.
