Join Johnson Controls and play a key role in developing innovative control solutions that drive efficiency, reliability, and performance. As an Electrical Designer Drafter, you'll design, develop, and document industrial control systems utilizing PLCs, embedded computer control platforms, and associated electrical systems. Collaborating closely with engineering, manufacturing, project management, and field teams, you'll transform concepts into high-quality, cost-effective solutions that make a real impact.

This position is based onsite at our FRICK manufacturing facility in Waynesboro, PA. Candidates must be commuting distance to the facility, or able to relocate. Only US Citizens and/or Permanent Residents will be considered for this position.

How you will do it

- Design and develop electrical control systems for industrial equipment and automation applications.
- Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, terminal plans, and bills of material using Autodesk Electrical.
- Develop PLC and embedded computer hardware documentation for new product designs and customer-specific projects.
- Select and specify electrical components including PLCs, HMIs, industrial computers, power supplies, circuit protection devices, communication hardware, sensors and instrumentation
- Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, standards, and company design practices.
- Support engineering change requests and update design documentation.
- Coordinate with engineers, production personnel, and suppliers to resolve design and manufacturing issues.
- Assist in panel layout optimization for manufacturability and serviceability.
- Generate accurate documentation packages for manufacturing, testing, and field installation.
- Participate in project review meetings and design reviews.
- Provide technical support during system integration, testing, startup, and troubleshooting activities.
- Maintain project schedules and deliver assigned tasks within established deadlines.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to design processes, standards, and documentation practices.
- Provide support for the controls panel shop to clarify specifications and adapt engineering changes if needed.

What you will need
Required

- Associate Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technology, or a similar discipline, or 5 years of professional experience in lieu of a degree.
- 2+ years of experience in electrical controls design, industrial automation, or related engineering design activities.

Preferred

- Proficiency with Autodesk Electrical.
- Understanding of industrial control systems and electrical design principles.
- Knowledge of PLC hardware platforms and industrial control architectures.
- Familiarity with embedded computer control systems and industrial networking.
- Ability to create and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, control system documentation, and industrial Refrigeration P&ID’s
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, Profinet, and serial communications
- Knowledge of electrical codes and industry standards including NFPA 70, NFPA 79, and UL508A control panel requirements.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $25.00 - $34.62 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
