Field Service Engineer - Controls

Job Title: Field Service Engineer Controls Job Description The Field Service Engineer Controls is responsible for delivering high-quality service, maintenance, commissioning, and repair of building automation and control systems. This role focuses on ensuring customer equipment operates reliably and efficiently, while establishing strong professional relationships with customers and peers. The Field Service Engineer also serves as a technical authority in the field, providing guidance, training, and support to junior technicians, and performing necessary administrative duties related to project documentation and reporting. Responsibilities

- Meet daily service, maintenance, and repair needs for customer building automation and control equipment.
- Lead field execution of building automation projects to ensure systems meet design intent and performance specifications.
- Commission Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, including installation, configuration, and optimization.
- Configure software, including loading programs, setting up trends, alarms, and reporting tools tailored to customer requirements.
- Deliver turnkey solutions across a variety of project scopes and complexity levels.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for field-related issues and escalations, providing effective solutions with minimal supervision.
- Diagnose complex system failures and own the resolution of challenging technical issues.
- Investigate root causes of recurring issues and implement corrective actions to improve system performance and reliability.
- Perform advanced controls and integration work to ensure seamless interoperability between diverse building automation platforms.
- Apply expert-level knowledge of TCP/IP and wireless networking technologies to ensure reliable system communication.
- Integrate multiple building automation systems and technologies into cohesive, interoperable solutions.
- Provide on-site training to building owners, operators, and customer staff on system operation and best practices.
- Maintain thorough project documentation, including configuration records, test results, and training materials.
- Communicate project progress, technical details, and system status clearly and professionally to customers and internal teams.
- Mentor and support junior field technicians through hands-on training, coaching, and technical guidance.
- Act as a field leader and role model, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and professionalism.
- Prioritize customer satisfaction by delivering timely, effective, and professional service.
- Show dependability by arriving on time, completing tasks reliably, and following all safety protocols.
- Maintain compliance with safety standards and company policies during all field activities.
- Represent the organization with integrity, professionalism, and clear communication in all customer interactions.

Essential Skills

- 2+ years of experience.
- Proven experience in commissioning and optimizing Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems.
- Strong experience in controls engineering, automation, or systems engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex system failures and resolve non-routine technical problems.
- Hands-on experience with building automation systems and integration across multiple platforms.
- Expert-level knowledge of TCP/IP networking and wireless communication technologies.
- Proficiency in software configuration, including loading control programs and setting up trends, alarms, and reporting tools.
- Solid troubleshooting skills for control systems, networking, and automation equipment.
- Ability to lead field execution of building automation projects with minimal supervision.
- Strong customer focus with the ability to prioritize customer satisfaction through timely and professional service.
- Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with customers and internal teams.
- Ability to mentor and support less experienced field engineers and technicians.
- High school diploma or GED (or higher-level degree) required.

- Any experience with WebCTRL is a significant plus.

Work Environment This role is field-based and involves working at a variety of client sites, including commercial buildings, educational facilities, institutional campuses, and data centers. Travel is primarily local. When traveling to a single, regular work site, the trip is treated as a standard commute. For service work at multiple locations, you may use a company truck or receive mileage reimbursement, depending on internal arrangements. The environment includes working with building automation systems, control panels, networking equipment, and related hardware and software. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Atlanta, GA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $45.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
