Quality Control Manager

Job Title: Quality Control Manager Job Description The Quality Control Manager oversees quality control processes and activities for large-scale construction projects, with a focus on concrete, site/civil, and utility work on an active project site in New York. This role requires 58 years of experience and a strong construction experience, including extensive field-based quality control expertise. The manager partners closely with project managers and the quality lead to plan, administer, and continuously improve quality across heavy excavation, civil, concrete, underground utilities/electric, and MEP scopes. Responsibilities

- Manage and oversee all quality control processes and activities for assigned construction projects and disciplines (concrete, site/civil, utility work).
- Ensure all project-related work plans and project-specific documents required for quality control activities are available and maintained onsite.
- Review subcontractor quality plans to confirm compliance with project requirements, specifications, and standards.
- Inspect work to verify conformance with contract documents, design drawings, and technical specifications.
- Interpret and understand drawings and specifications to guide quality control inspections and decisions.
- Develop and maintain daily quality control reports that document inspections, issues, and resolutions.
- Prepare and issue detailed meeting minutes related to quality control discussions, decisions, and action items.
- Assist with post-construction reports to capture lessons learned, quality performance, and final outcomes.
- Use the Submittal Register to track required materials and ensure timely approval in alignment with project schedules.
- Manage in-depth technical reviews of submittals against design documents to confirm compliance and suitability.
- Proactively identify, document, and initiate deficiency and non-conformance reports, and monitor corrective actions through completion.
- Exercise authority to stop work when necessary to resolve issues affecting safety, quality, or compliance with design documents.
- Verify that materials received onsite match those identified in approved submittals and complete material receipt inspection checklists.
- Coordinate, witness, and document third-party testing, special inspections, and commissioning of building systems.
- Document all tests, inspections, and results in an organized and traceable manner.
- Coordinate and document the completion inspection process to confirm all work meets project requirements.
- Manage timely project closeout, including compilation and turnover of all required quality-related documents and records.
- Partner with project managers to plan and administer quality for their respective disciplines, acting as a subject matter expert.
- Troubleshoot quality issues by applying deep knowledge of specifications, systems, and construction methods.
- Report to the quality lead and provide regular updates on quality status, risks, and corrective actions.
- Coach and mentor less experienced team members to build quality control capabilities across the project team.
- Support and promote a positive and inclusive work environment that values collaboration and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

- 58 years of experience in construction with extensive field-based quality control responsibilities.
- Strong experience in construction disciplines including concrete, civil, site work, and utility work.
- Subject matter expertise (SME) in at least one of the following areas: concrete, site/civil, or utility systems.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Demonstrated experience inspecting construction work for conformance with contract and design documents.
- Proficiency in managing and reviewing subcontractor quality plans for compliance with project requirements.
- Experience using submittal registers to track material approvals and ensure alignment with project schedules.
- Skill in conducting in-depth technical reviews of submittals against design documents.
- Capability to identify, document, and resolve deficiencies and non-conformances, including monitoring corrective actions.
- Confidence and judgment to stop work when necessary to address safety, quality, or compliance concerns.
- Ability to coordinate, witness, and document third-party testing, special inspections, and commissioning activities.
- Strong written communication skills for preparing daily quality control reports, meeting minutes, and post-construction documentation.
- Experience managing project closeout processes, including compilation and turnover of quality documentation.
- Knowledge of general contractor practices and standards in large, complex construction projects.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Proficiency in construction inspection practices across structural, civil, and MEP scopes.

- Experience working on large-scale industrial or infrastructure projects involving heavy excavation, civil, concrete, underground utilities/electric, and MEP systems.
- Ability to act as a technical resource and subject matter expert, understanding specifications, systems, and troubleshooting methods.
- working with or for general contractors in a field-based quality control role.
- Familiarity with structural systems and MEP components in complex facilities.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple quality activities, documentation, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to partner effectively with project managers, subcontractors, and third-party inspectors.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and support less experienced team members.

Work Environment This position is based onsite at an active construction jobsite in New York, working directly within a dynamic project environment that includes heavy excavation, civil work, concrete operations, underground utilities/electrical installations, and MEP systems. The role involves frequent field presence, coordination with project managers, subcontractors, and third-party inspectors, and hands-on engagement with ongoing construction activities. Work is performed in typical outdoor and partially enclosed construction conditions, with exposure to varying weather, noise, and site operations. Standard construction-site safety practices apply, including appropriate personal protective equipment and attire consistent with jobsite requirements. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $64.90/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
