Position Summary
Apex Technical School is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Student Accounts Coordinator/Cashier to support student financial services and account management. This role is responsible for processing tuition payments, maintaining accurate student account records, managing payment plans, and serving as the primary point of contact for student billing inquiries.
The ideal candidate will have strong accounting, cash-handling, customer service, and administrative skills, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality and accuracy in a fast-paced educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and post tuition payments, including payments from third-party sponsors.
- Maintain accurate student account records and financial transactions.
- Manage student payment plans and monitor payment due dates.
- Follow up on overdue balances and coordinate with collection agencies as needed.
- Review aging reports and identify opportunities for account resolution.
- Balance cash drawers, reconcile daily transactions, and prepare bank deposits.
- Reconcile daily and weekly account activity and resolve discrepancies.
- Respond to student questions regarding account balances, billing, and payment options.
- Maintain organized financial records and filing systems.
- Assist with audit preparation, accreditation requirements, and compliance documentation.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
- Coordinate with the Finance Department regarding student tax forms (1098-T).
- Support student registration and orientation events by explaining financial obligations.
- Assist with month-end accounting activities and reporting.
- Prepare reports and provide updates to management.
- Participate in staff training and professional development opportunities.
- Support special projects and other administrative duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation
- Associate degree required.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of related accounting, cashiering, student accounts, billing, collections, or financial services experience.
- Experience in higher education, vocational education, or a school setting preferred.
Technical Skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience using Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
- Experience with Student Information Systems (SIS), preferably Anthology/Ellucian, is a plus.
