Laboratory Assistant & Adjunct Faculty Administrative Support

Job Summary: MidAmerica Nazarene University, located in Olathe, Kansas, invites qualified candidates to apply for a Laboratory Assistant and Adjunct Support position supporting the Department of Natural, Health, and Mathematical Sciences. This is a part-time, 20 hour per week position providing hands-on support for the department's teaching laboratories as well as administrative support for adjunct faculty. Candidates for this position should be able to demonstrate a commitment to higher education delivered with a Christ-centered worldview, a strong commitment to the servant leadership model, and be able to successfully perform the following responsibilities.

Position Description:

- Maintains laboratory spaces in a clean, organized, and safe condition, including equipment, glassware, and workstations.

- Maintains accurate chemical and biological inventory, including proper labeling, storage, and disposal in accordance with safety regulations and institutional policy.

- Prepares laboratory materials, reagents, specimens, and equipment for scheduled labs at the direction of faculty.

- Sets up and breaks down lab stations before and after scheduled class sessions.

- Orders and restocks laboratory supplies, chemicals, and equipment, and maintains related purchasing and safety documentation.

- Supports compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable safety standards.

- Assists faculty with the calibration, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.

- Supports proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste and biological materials.

- Assists faculty in preparing lab manuals, handouts, and instructional materials as needed.

- Provides administrative support to adjunct faculty with the department.

- Works collegially with faculty, staff, and students across the department.

- Performs other duties as assigned by faculty or the Department Chair.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

- Associate or bachelor's degree in a natural or health science field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry) preferred, or equivalent relevant laboratory experience.

- Prior experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably in an academic or educational environment.

- Knowledge of proper chemical handling, storage, and safety procedures.

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet preparation deadlines for scheduled labs.

- Ability to lift and move laboratory equipment and supplies as needed.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students.
