Dept Mgr 6/Environmental (049437)

Reporting to the Environmental Health Administrator, the Department Manager 6 , is a public health leadership role that provides oversight, and management of environmental health programs designed to protect and promote community health. This includes providing direction of program operations, ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, supervision of staff, and direct implementation of policies and procedures for the assigned programs within the Environmental Health Unit.

This examination is open only to employees of the County of Wayne who are Government Administrator's Association members, who have:

Educational/Experience Requirements

- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Engineering, Biological Science, or a closely related field;
- Registered Sanitarian or Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian
- A valid State of Michigan driver’s license and acceptable driving record; and automobile available for daily use.
- At least six years of environmental health experience, of which at least four years are to be in general environmental health program areas (food services sanitation, water supplies, on-site sewage disposal management, institutional sanitation, vector control, recreational sanitation, etc.) Experience must include at least two years of supervisory or special assessment experience.

Candidates who meet the qualifications will have their application forwarded to the hiring department for consideration.

PURPOSE

To establish a GAA promotional eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies. Certifications made for the purpose of filling positions which, at the time of certification, are filled by persons having provisional promotions will be governed by the provisions of Section 6 (e) of Rule 8 of the Rules of the Department of Personnel/Human Resources.

GENERAL INFORMATION

How to Apply : Section 5 (b) of Rule 6 of the Rules of the Department of Personnel/Human Resources provides that persons denied permission to compete in an examination may make a written appeal to the Wayne County Civil Service Commission for a final decision within twenty (20) days following the mailing of such notification, stating the basis on which it is felt that their application should be accepted.
