Surgical Appointment Nurse

Veterinary Referral Center (VRC) is a comprehensive, referral specialty & emergency critical care veterinary hospital in Malvern, Pennsylvania. We are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for appointments, advanced imaging, surgery and emergency/critical care services. At our hospital, you'll be working alongside a large team of experienced & board-certified veterinarians with advanced specialized training who utilize the latest innovations in medicine and technology to treat companion animals. Our veterinary services include trauma treatment and critical care, medical oncology, radiation therapy oncology, cardiology, internal medicine, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, dentistry/oral surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, MRI and CT, endoscopy, rehabilitation, and emergency services.

We are looking to add a skilled Surgical Appointment Veterinary Nurse to compliment our growing, fast paced hospital. By joining VRC you will be supported by a team of excellent nurses and assistants along with experienced, board-certified veterinarians. We utilize the latest innovations in medicine and technology to treat companion animals on an emergency basis and/or long-term ailments.

Responsibilities:

•    Run daily appointments with the surgeon
•    Obtain an accurate history for the doctor, obtain vitals (temperature, auscultating heart rate, palpating pulses,        auscultating lung sounds and respiratory rate, assessing mucous membranes and capillary refill time)
•    Perform diagnostic testing (lab work, radiographs, ultrasound)
•    Perform sedation and monitor during short procedures such as bandage/cast changes, radiographs
•    Assist in patient procedures: holding for ultrasounds, aspirates
•    Fill medications for clients to give at home
•    Administrate medications in all routes (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous)
•    Handle client communications and properly document in the patient’s medical record
•    Admit patients for hospitalization/surgical procedures

Schedule:

•    Monday-Thursday 8a-6pm, subject to change with advanced notice

Compensation:

•    Hourly range $22-$34/hour
•    Even higher for VTS!

Preferred skills:

•    1-2 years of veterinary experience
•    Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
•    Proficient verbal and written communication skills
•    Availability to be on-call 1 x monthly and work some holidays
•    Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
•    Positive attitude, be a team player
•    Excellent interpersonal skills and able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with others.
