O&M Backflow Tester / F.O.G. Inspector

F.O.G. (Fats, Oils & Grease) Responsibilities:

- Perform inspections of grease interceptors, grease traps, grease removal equipment, floor drains, sinks, and associated plumbing systems to verify proper installation, operation, maintenance, and compliance.

- Review waste hauler documentation, disposal methods, and manifests for compliance with program requirements.

- Educate regulated entities on Best Management Practices (BMPs) to reduce F.O.G. discharges into collection systems.

- Conduct follow-up inspections as needed.

- Utilize CMMS and inspection software to generate work orders and maintain inspection, sampling, and compliance records.

- Record laboratory and field data into computerized databases.

- Prepare reports for process control, troubleshooting, operational planning, and regulatory submissions.

- Conduct sampling and inspections and prepare required periodic and annual reports.

- Issue enforcement notices when necessary.

- Respond to F.O.G.-related complaints, perform field investigations, document findings, and coordinate issue resolution.

- Clean, maintain , calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory, sampling, and inspection equipment.

- Perform manual labor and operational support tasks related to environmental monitoring and investigations.

- Follow all applicable safety regulations, operating procedures, environmental laws, permit requirements, and PPE requirements.

Backflow Tester Responsibilities:

- Perform routine and compliance testing of backflow prevention assemblies, including RPZ, PVB, and DC devices.

- Clean, maintain , calibrate, and inspect field testing equipment.

- Maintain inventory control for spare parts and devices.

- Diagnose failures and repair, rebuild, or replace backflow preventers as necessary.

- Document testing results, maintenance actions, and compliance status for regulatory agencies and customers.

- Enter data into CMMS (online work order system).

- Communicate findings and recommendations to municipalities, businesses, homeowners, management, and clients.

- Perform additional duties as assigned.

What You Will Need to Succeed

Required Qualifications

- High school diploma or GED equivalent.

- Valid Florida driver’s license with a safe driving record.

- Ability to obtain a Florida DOT Medical Card to operate a crane truck.

- Ability to regularly lift or move up to 40 pounds.

- Successful completion of:

- DOT background check

- DOT pre-placement physical

- DOT drug screen

Required Training & Certifications

- Attend Fats, Oils & Grease Management I (Inspector Training).

- Attend Fats, Oils & Grease Management II (Program Development/Management Training) through the Florida Industrial Pretreatment Association (FIPA), which may require overnight travel.

- Attend Backflow Tester and Repair Certification Training through FWPCOA, which may require overnight travel.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This position is primarily performed in an outdoor environment and requires a combination of inspection, operational, and field work activities.

Responsibilities may include:

- Frequent standing and walking.

- Kneeling, bending, reaching, crouching, stooping, balancing, and crawling.

- Light to moderate lifting and carrying.

- Keyboarding and telephone operation.

- Working in confined spaces.

- Working at elevations.

- Wearing hearing protection and other required PPE.

- Exposure to varying weather and environmental conditions.

Employees may stand, walk, or move for 6 to 8 hours daily and perform moderate, semi-constant physical activity.

Work may occur in environments that require protective equipment in accordance with OSHA regulations. All work must be performed safely and in compliance with applicable environmental and safety standards.
