About this role

The Assistant Feed Mill Manager supports the daily operations of a company feed mill while exercising the technical, financial, safety, compliance, and leadership skills needed for future feed mill management responsibilities. This role works alongside Feed Mill Managers and mill team members to ensure proper feed manufacturing, transportation scheduling, ingredient and inventory management, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, continuous improvement, and employee support. The position develops the skills needed to maintain an efficient high-volume feed mill while maintaining a safe work environment and reinforcing a culture of caring. Travel to feed mills, finishing, and processing facilities is required.

Duties and Functions:

Support the implementation of feed manufacturing, grain handling, quality control, and regulatory compliance procedures.
Assist with daily feed manufacturing and transportation schedules to ensure timely and accurate feed delivery.
Support ingredient procurement, receiving, inventory control, and variance monitoring to help execute the nutrition program effectively.
Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance productivity, feed quality, safety, and employee engagement.
Assist with development of annual operating plans, budgets, capital requests, and monthly financial reviews to understand feed mill cost management.
Assist the Feed Mill Manager with recruiting, training, coaching, evaluating, and supporting mill employees in preparation for future supervisory responsibilities.
Execute environmental, food safety, Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), and other regulatory programs to maintain compliance across mill operations.
Promote a culture of caring and safety environment by reinforcing safe work practices that protect employees, transport providers, production partners, and visitors.
Identify regulatory non-conformances and assist with corrective actions, audits, and follow-up.
Educate and reinforce expectations with team members related to policies, procedures, safety, quality, and compliance standard.

Minimum Requirements

Education

Bachelor of Science Degree in Grain Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Business, or a related field preferred.

Experience

1-2 years in Agriculture or related field required. 2-3 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for the Bachelors Degree.

Compensation:

Targeted pay range of $60,000 - $70,000 USD annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
