Assistant Shipping Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

Manage daily shipping and distribution operations. Ensure complete orders are shipped and delivered in a timely manner. Must be analytical, well-organized and excel in communication. Must be comfortable with paperwork and information systems and have strong knowledge of shipping procedures. The goal is to ensure that the shipping processes are running smoothly and effectively.

JOB DUTIES:

- Collaborate with operations, transportation and other managers to optimize processes

- Manage and lead shipping supervisors and team

- Use available systems and/or tools to track, check, and prioritize orders

- Determine labor needs by day; Assign labor based on priority

- Direct the flow of loads and ensure they are staged accordingly

- Manage all shipping related documents and spreadsheets

- Inspect labels, barcodes and other features of completed orders

- Order necessary shipping supplies

- Resolve issues regarding orders

- Ensure compliance to legal regulations and company policies

- Ensure all work areas are kept clean and organized and are free of safety hazards

- Manage forklift testing/certification

- Manage customer cart return process

- Report to management on activities and issues

- Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

- Associate/Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, business or related field preferred

- Five + years of experience as shipping manager

- Solid knowledge of shipping procedures

- Computer savvy with excellent knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel)

- Good understanding of budgeting and reporting

- Experience in directing and evaluating teams

- Excellent organizational and communication skills

- Attention to detail

- Problem-solving abilities
