About this role
The Janitorial Agent is responsible for cleaning and maintaining all public and back-of-house areas throughout Orlando Sanford International Airport terminals and facilities. This position performs routine and specialized custodial services, including trash removal, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, disinfecting, and replenishing supplies to ensure airport facilities are clean, sanitary, safe, and welcoming for passengers, visitors, tenants, and employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Clean and maintain terminal, office, restroom, public, and back-of-house areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, and removing trash.
Empty trash and recycling receptacles, replace liners, and maintain assigned areas in a clean and orderly condition.
Clean and disinfect restrooms, including fixtures, partitions, sinks, toilets, mirrors, and other surfaces; replenish soap, paper towels, toilet tissue, and other supplies.
Clean windows, walls, counters, drinking fountains, furniture, displays, equipment, upholstery, carpets, rugs, and hard-surface floors as assigned.
Respond to spills, construction activities, special events, high-traffic areas, and other operational cleaning needs.
Safely operate, clean, and maintain custodial equipment, including vacuums, floor buffers/scrubbers, carpet extractors, mops, brooms, carts, ladders, and related equipment.
Handle cleaning chemicals and disinfectants according to manufacturer instructions, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), safety requirements, and established procedures; use required PPE.
Identify and promptly report maintenance issues, equipment malfunctions, supply shortages, safety hazards, accidents, incidents, and facility deficiencies to the Janitorial Shift Supervisor.
Follow cleaning schedules, assignments, sanitation standards, safety procedures, and applicable health, environmental, and Airport requirements.
Prioritize assignments based on passenger traffic, special events, operational requirements, and service needs.
Maintain accurate cleaning activity records and communicate operational concerns to supervision.
Provide courteous assistance to passengers, visitors, tenants, and employees and respond professionally to cleaning or maintenance-related requests.
Recommend improvements to cleaning processes, efficiency, and service quality; remain current on cleaning methods, equipment, and technologies.
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment and participate in required meetings and training.
Perform other duties as assigned.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Vacuum cleaners, mops, brooms, squeegees, cleaning carts, ladders, and carpet extractors.
Floor buffers and floor scrubbers.
Cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, restroom supplies, and disposable cleaning materials.
Trash/recycling containers, wet-floor signs, safety signage, and related custodial equipment.
Gloves, PPE, and other required safety equipment.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, sanitation, chemicals, equipment, and safety practices.
- Ability to safely operate custodial equipment, read SDS/product labels, and follow written instructions.
- Favorable MVR, successful Federal Fingerprint Background Check, and 10-panel drug screening including THC in accordance with applicable FAA/Airport requirements.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency operations.
- Ability to continuously walk, stand, bend, lift, carry, push, and pull; frequently climb, kneel, squat, stoop, and reach.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous janitorial, custodial, commercial cleaning, or similar facility-maintenance experience.
- Additional training or experience with commercial cleaning equipment, sanitation procedures, or airport facility operations.
Employment Requirements
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable pre-employment requirements, which may include:
- Federal fingerprint-based background check. The Authority conducts a federal fingerprint-based background check consistent with applicable airport security requirements. The scope of the check is not limited to a seven-year period. Certain criminal convictions may affect eligibility for employment.
- 10-panel drug screening. The Authority maintains a drug-free workplace. Pre-employment drug screening includes testing for THC.
- Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review. A satisfactory driving record is required for positions or duties for which driving is applicable. The review may include license status, suspensions, moving violations, and DUI-related offenses.
- Education verification.
- Additional screening, security, or employment requirements may apply based on applicable federal, state, or Authority requirements.
