Bring Your Standby Letter of Credit Expertise to a Team Where It Matters

As a Standby Letter of Credit Specialist, you'll play a vital role in supporting sophisticated commercial and corporate clients by managing complex standby letter of credit transactions that help drive business forward.

This is not a traditional operations role. We are seeking a highly skilled standby letter of credit professional who thrives on navigating complex transactions, collaborating with business partners, and serving as a trusted subject matter expert. If you enjoy balancing client needs, regulatory requirements, and risk management while working on challenging and impactful transactions, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do

As a key member of Global Trade & Standby Services (GTSS), you will manage and administer a portfolio of standby letters of credit throughout the full transaction lifecycle. You'll partner with Relationship Managers, Credit, Compliance, Legal, clients, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders to deliver exceptional service and sound risk management.

Key Responsibilities

- Draft, structure, and negotiate standby letter of credit language and terms while ensuring alignment with bank standards and client requirements.
- Manage the complete standby letter of credit lifecycle, including issuance, amendments, renewals, advising, confirmations, draws, and releases.
- Support complex standby letter of credit structures, including syndicated facilities, direct-pay and IRB support transactions, counter standby letters of credit, and counter-counter standby letters of credit.
- Verify required credit approvals and facility availability before processing transactions.
- Apply industry rules and standards including ISP98 and UCP 600 to support transaction execution and client guidance.
- Review draw presentations and associated documentation for compliance with letter of credit terms.
- Identify discrepancies, communicate findings, and coordinate timely resolutions with stakeholders.
- Serve as a trusted point of contact for clients, beneficiaries, Relationship Managers, Legal, Compliance, and internal business partners.
- Monitor a high-volume portfolio while maintaining accuracy, service excellence, and operational controls.
- Escalate exceptions, operational risks, and urgent issues while providing meaningful insights on portfolio trends and activity.

Basic Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Six or more years of relevant work experience

Preferred Skills/Experience
We're particularly interested in professionals who bring:

- Deep expertise in standby letters of credit, including drafting, issuance, amendments, negotiations, and draw processing
- Strong understanding of standby letter of credit structures and associated risks
- Working knowledge of ISP98 and/or UCP 600
- Experience partnering with Relationship Managers, Credit, Compliance, Legal, and clients to resolve complex issues
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to interpret client requirements and translate them into clear, enforceable letter of credit language
- Exceptional attention to detail and risk awareness
- Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and high transaction volumes with accuracy
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using letter of credit processing and workflow systems

Location Expectations

This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $75,820.00 - $89,200.00
