Corporate Litigation Counsel

Masco Corporation’s Legal Department is seeking an experienced Corporate Counsel, Litigation to serve as a strategic legal partner to Masco’s businesses and corporate functions. This attorney will provide counsel across a broad range of complex litigation, product liability, product compliance, and product safety matters, while helping the Company proactively identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risk.

The successful candidate will bring strong litigation expertise, sound judgment, and a practical, business-oriented approach to complex legal issues. The role will require the ability to translate legal and regulatory requirements into actionable business guidance, work effectively across functions and business units, and balance risk management with Masco’s commercial objectives.

This position will report to Masco’s Assistant General Counsel – Director of Litigation and Government Affairs and will work closely with senior leaders, business-unit leadership, other members of the Legal Department, and cross-functional teams throughout the Company.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide strategic legal counsel to Masco’s businesses and corporate functions on a broad range of litigation, product liability, product compliance, product safety, and related regulatory matters.
- Develop and execute litigation and risk-management strategies, balancing legal exposure, business objectives, financial considerations, reputational risk, and other relevant factors.
- Manage complex disputes and litigation matters from inception through resolution, including case strategy, discovery, negotiations, mediation, arbitration, trial preparation, and settlement.
- Direct and effectively manage outside counsel, including selection, matter strategy, performance, staffing, budgets, and overall cost management.
- Partner with business and functional leaders to identify emerging legal risks and develop practical strategies to prevent disputes and mitigate potential exposure before issues escalate.
- Advise on product compliance and product safety matters, including emerging regulatory requirements, product-related claims, investigations, recalls, and other issues that may create legal, regulatory, operational, or reputational risk.
- Monitor and anticipate emerging litigation, regulatory, and product-related trends and translate those developments into actionable guidance for business leaders and relevant functions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Quality, Operations, Product Development, Regulatory, Compliance, Risk Management, Human Resources, Finance, Procurement, and Communications, to address complex legal and business issues.
- Provide timely, practical advice to senior management regarding significant disputes, litigation exposure, product risks, regulatory developments, and other matters with material legal or business implications.
- Develop and deliver legal and regulatory training for business leaders and employees, with an emphasis on practical risk identification, compliance, and prevention.
- Support the continuous improvement of litigation and risk-management practices, including processes, policies, reporting, outside counsel management, and knowledge sharing across Masco’s businesses.
- Contribute to a collaborative Legal Department culture, sharing expertise and partnering with colleagues to provide consistent, high-quality legal support across the organization.

Essential Experience and Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited institution, with active registration to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 10+ years of relevant legal experience, including significant experience managing complex litigation, preferably with a combination of sophisticated law firm and in-house experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in commercial litigation, product liability, product compliance, product safety, or related regulatory matters. Experience in a complex manufacturing or consumer products environment is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to develop and execute litigation strategies and effectively manage outside counsel, including matter budgets, staffing, and performance.
- Strong understanding of how to assess legal risk in the context of broader business objectives and provide practical, commercially sound recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a complex, decentralized organization, build credibility with business leaders, and influence outcomes without relying solely on formal authority.
- Strong strategic thinking and judgment, with the ability to identify emerging issues, anticipate potential risks, and develop proactive solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions, business units, and levels of the organization, including with senior management.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable business advice.
- Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and risk-assessment capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority matters simultaneously, exercise sound judgment under pressure, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
