Baptist Health is hiring a Patient Financial Advocate to join our Patient Financial Services team in Jacksonville, FL. This is a full-time day shift opportunity.
The Patient Financial Services team serves as a key point of contact for patients and families across Patient Access, BMDA, the Contact Center, and Single Billing Office (SBO). The team focuses on helping patients understand their financial responsibilities, navigate payment options and insurance benefits, and access available financial assistance. The ideal candidate will have customer service or insurance experience and strong communication skills to effectively advocate for patients and collaborate with internal teams.
Patient Financial Advocate Job Responsibilities:
- Educate patients and responsible parties regarding financial responsibility, payment options, collection procedures, and available financial assistance.
- Counsel patients regarding insurance benefits and recommend alternative payment sources and financial assistance programs when appropriate.
- Contact insurance carriers and other resources on behalf of patients and serve as an advocate throughout the financial assistance process.
- Collaborate with managers, physicians, and servicing departments regarding potential delays in scheduled physician visits, diagnostic testing, and procedures when required authorization has not been obtained.
- Identify patient eligibility for applicable local, state, and federal financial assistance programs.
- Support a seamless patient financial experience by coordinating financial assistance processes across multiple areas of the healthcare system.
- Serve as a knowledgeable and compassionate point of contact for patients and families regarding financial needs and available resources.
Patient Financial Advocate Experience:
- 1–2 years of customer service or insurance experience (Required)
- Experience in a healthcare, patient access, financial counseling, or revenue cycle environment preferred.
Patient Financial Advocate Education & Credential Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent. (Required)
- Bachelor of Arts/Science (BA/BS) (Preferred)

Essential role as a point of contact for patients in one of the following areas of business- Patient Access (hospital & ED patient facing), BMDA, Contact Center, or Single Billing Office (SBO)
• The Team is a cross vertical group with a number one priority of serving the financial needs of the patients and families of Baptist Healthcare System .The ultimate goal of the Team is to integrate patient financial assistance throughout the healthcare system to provide a seamless patient experience
• Educates patients and parties of their financial responsibility and assist with payment options and collection procedures
• They counsel patients regarding insurance benefits and recommend alternative sources of payment and financial assistance when appropriate
• They contact insurance carriers and other sources and act as an advocate for the patient
• They collaborate with managers, physicians, and servicing departments regarding any delay of service for scheduled physician visits, diagnostic testing, and procedures which have not been approved prior to the date of service
• They identify eligibility for local, state, and federal programs.
