Amazon Leo is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). The Product Design (PD) engineering team is responsible for conceiving, designing, and bringing to market innovative customer terminal hardware for Amazon Leo. PD engineers work within an experienced cross-disciplinary team to deliver the physical product, owning the design from concept through production.

As a Product Design Engineer on the Customer Terminals team, you will lead the mechanical design of parts and assemblies, drive design-of-experiments, testing, evaluation, and down-selection activities. You will identify key design attributes and work with speed and rigor to converge on robust electromechanical solutions. You will own the rationale and tradeoffs behind every detail of your designs, from material selection and structural features to molding gates and tolerance strategies. You will partner with manufacturing vendors early and often to scale designs for high-volume production while optimizing for cost, performance, and schedule. When you identify risks, you will surface them to leadership with clear recommendations and a path to resolution. Strong communication skills are essential; you will regularly engage with PD teammates, cross-functional partners and senior leadership to drive alignment and deliver results.

Key job responsibilities
• PD Direct Responsible Individual (DRI) for multiple system components (housings, PCBs, thermal components, etc).
• Work with cross functional team to solve difficult electromechanical problems to enable good design.
• Identify key design constrains and priorities.
• Demonstrate solid mechanical fundamentals and judgement through design decisions
• Deliver robust, flexible, durable, and performant designs
• Concise and accurate communication with PD members, cross functional teams, and executives.
• Customer focused when solving ambiguous problems.
• Ability to create scalable solutions while solving tactical problems.
• Position will require international travel.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience product design (consumer, medical, telecom, etc)
- 3+ years professional experience with 3D CAD modeling & 2D drawing creation
- Experience with designing for high volume manufacturing and assembly processes (plastic injection / thermoforming, casting, sheet metal, machining, various finishing processes)
- Experience performing tolerance analysis and statistical analysis techniques

Preferred Qualifications

- Master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience in consumer electronics products designing IP66 outdoor rated electronics/telecommunications products.
- Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs), flexes and electrical interconnect design experience
- Experience performing mechanical and thermal Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations
- Experience with Phase Array antennas including products used in the field.
- Excellent mechanics and material fundamentals
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to write and present engineering artifacts

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
