Sr Staff Firmware & Validation Test Engineer

About the Role

The Senior Staff Firmware / BMC / BIOS (FA) & Validation Test Engineer is responsible for defining, developing, and executing comprehensive validation strategies for firmware, BIOS, Baseboard Management Controller (BMC), and platform management technologies across next-generation hardware platforms. This role plays a critical part in ensuring product quality, stability, reliability, and release readiness through rigorous validation, automation, and failure analysis practices.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in firmware validation, platform architecture, system testing, and automation frameworks. Working closely with firmware, hardware, quality, and program management teams, this engineer drives validation excellence throughout the product lifecycle, helping to identify risks early, improve product quality, and accelerate successful product releases.

What You Will Do

- Develop and execute validation strategies for firmware, BIOS, BMC, and platform management features across complex hardware systems.
- Design, implement, and maintain automated test frameworks to improve test coverage, efficiency, and scalability.
- Create test plans, validation methodologies, and qualification criteria aligned with product requirements and release milestones.
- Perform functional, integration, regression, stress, performance, and reliability testing of firmware and platform components.
- Drive failure analysis investigations to identify root causes of firmware, hardware, and system-level issues.
- Collaborate with firmware, BIOS, hardware, validation, and quality engineering teams to resolve defects and improve product quality.
- Analyze test results, system logs, telemetry, and diagnostic data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Develop validation metrics, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms that provide visibility into product readiness and quality.
- Support new feature bring-up, platform integration, and pre-production qualification activities.
- Validate firmware releases and ensure readiness for manufacturing, deployment, and customer-facing environments.
- Identify gaps in test coverage and implement automation solutions that improve defect detection and testing efficiency.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and release readiness reviews to ensure validation requirements are met.

What You Bring

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline; advanced degree preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in firmware validation, BIOS validation, BMC validation, platform testing, or systems engineering.
- Strong knowledge of firmware architectures, BIOS technologies, BMC platforms, and server hardware systems.
- Hands-on experience developing automated test frameworks and validation tools using Python, Shell scripting, or similar programming languages.
- Strong understanding of system validation methodologies, test automation, defect management, and quality assurance processes.
- Experience with hardware bring-up, platform integration, qualification testing, and release validation activities.
- Proven ability to perform root cause analysis and troubleshoot complex firmware, hardware, and system-level issues.
- Familiarity with industry-standard protocols, interfaces, and platform management technologies.
- Experience working in large-scale data center, enterprise server, cloud, or hyperscale hardware environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex technical data and test results.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering and operational teams.
- Demonstrated success delivering high-quality validation solutions that improve product reliability, stability, and release confidence.

ZT Systems assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package is created for all our employees. The typical base salary for this position is expected to be between $116,250 - $155,000. If hired, the final base salary will be determined on an individual basis taking into consideration experience, skills, knowledge, education and/or certifications.
