About this role

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Member Experience Director designs and delivers programming and administers facility operations. The Member Experience Director creates and maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals. This position leads our Welcome Center and facility team, engages members and guests, and creates a positive member experience that seamlessly transitions members between Welcome Center operations and Wellness programming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsible for the operation of the Membership and facility departments to support the strategic direction of the YMCA of Tuscaloosa while modeling behavioral values established by the association.

Lead member involvement and relationship building strategies to increase membership, participation, enrollment, and volunteerism

Recruits, hires, trains, develops and directs diverse staff, interns, and volunteers. Holds others accountable for equitable staff promotion, and development. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Guides others on how to strengthen knowledge, skills, and competencies that improve organizational performance.

Represent and promote the Y in local community by developing strategic, positive collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and applicable government entities

Develop and deliver training program for new and current personnel and carry primary responsibility for all departmental staff development

Assists in budgeting process so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives. Works closely with Finance Department to ensure operating budgets meet or exceed targets.

Provides administrative support to the CEO and works closely with leadership staff to ensure operational standards are adhered to efficiently. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.

Develops and directs high quality member engagement strategies and programs which support branch and association goals and strategies. Establishes plans for the expansion of programs and services, in harmony with overall YMCA objectives and the leadership team.

Effectively communicates community benefit and the Ys impact for staff, volunteers, members, and community leaders and develops positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.

Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and community events.

Maintain required safety and leadership training certifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree or equivalent experience and at least 2 years of progressive departmental management experience.

3 or more years of experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.

Ability to direct assigned operations including volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, and program development.

Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.

Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse populations and establish / maintain collaborations with community organizations.
