The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is seeking a pediatric gastroenterologist specialized in pancreatology, for the Medical Director position of our Pancreas Care Center (PCC). The ideal candidate would be at the associate professor or professor level, ideally with pancreas specific training and a pancreas-focused clinical interest. Interventional endoscopists are welcome and encouraged to apply, however this is not a requirement for the position.

The team comprises talented physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, nurses, and support staff from a multi-disciplinary team structure that bridges across departments and divisions from gastroenterology, surgery, endocrinology, transplant administration, radiology, pain services and others. As the first pediatric Pancreas Center of Excellence accredited by the National Pancreas Foundation, we have served patients and families from over 40 states and internationally. The candidate will work closely with Dr. Maisam Abu-El-Haija, Founding Director of the PCC to achieve the center’s goals and advance our mission. The team currently consists of five gastroenterology pancreatology experts who contribute to a robust clinical and research infrastructure. The team offers all needed services to pancreas patients, including advanced endoscopy interventions by the Interventional Endoscopy center (IntEc) spearheaded by Drs. Vitale and Sprague, and surgical procedures including a high volume of Total Pancreatectomy Islet Autotransplantation (TPIAT) procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

- Leadership and Program Development:
- Serve as the clinical leader for the Pancreas Care Center, working closely with the other disciplines to advance patient management.
- Develop and implement clinical protocols and pathways to enhance patient outcomes and streamline care delivery.
- Collaborate with the center director, and the other divisions leaders to ensure appropriate resource allocation for program sustainability and growth.

Patient Care/ Education/ Research:

- Lead multi-disciplinary team to provide family centered care.
- Coordinate care across the disciplines for the pancreas patients.
- Foster an environment of excellence in education by teaching and mentoring residents and fellows.
- Support and lead research efforts to advance patient management.

Job Qualifications:

- M.D., D.O., or equivalent degree
- Current active medical license issued by the State of Ohio or eligible for license
- Appropriate medical credentialing through the Medical Staff Services offices
- Completion of all required pre-employment activities
- Associate Professor or Professor appointment or eligibility required
- Generally, requires a minimum of five years of service at the Assistant Professor rank
- Board certification in Pediatric Gastroenterology
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in gastroenterology with a focus on pancreatology and track record of excellence and innovation.
- Demonstrated leadership and experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong commitment to patient care, education, and research.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Proven ability to collaborate across specialties and departments to achieve common goals.
- Strong academic background with a history of publications in the field of pediatric gastroenterology and/or pancreatology.
- In addition to joining the PCC, the candidate will join a well-rounded Gastroenterology division comprised of faculty with broad expertise across diverse GI conditions and an active research portfolio. The candidate will have protected time for leadership and have access to resources within the division and the center that are essential parts of the success in this role.
