About this role
We are seeking a motivated and technically strong Energy Modeler to join our growing national Energy Services team. This position will support a diverse portfolio of federal, aviation, higher education, commercial, healthcare, and institutional projects by performing energy modeling, compliance analysis, life-cycle cost analyses (LCCAs), facility energy assessments, decarbonization studies, and building performance evaluations. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-performance building design, federal facility energy studies, advanced HVAC system assessments and optimization, and economic evaluations that help clients improve building performance and make informed capital planning decisions.
The ideal candidate is passionate about high-performance, low-carbon building design, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and thrives in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment. In this role, you will work closely with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architecture, and sustainability teams to develop practical, cost-effective solutions that support decarbonization and electrification planning, net-zero and carbon-reduction strategies, and improved resiliency across a wide range of facility types, including airports and transportation facilities, higher education campuses, and healthcare and institutional buildings. This work will include evaluating building systems and energy performance, supporting compliance and planning efforts, and helping clients identify strategies that reduce operating costs while advancing long-term sustainability goals.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a team working on nationally significant projects across multiple market sectors while collaborating with recognized experts in building performance, energy analysis, and mechanical systems. You will gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies, including geothermal systems, building electrification, advanced controls, and net-zero design approaches, while contributing to a practice that values technical excellence, innovation, mentoring, and continuous professional growth. For candidates who are energized by meaningful technical work and want to help clients achieve ambitious energy, carbon, and operational goals, this role offers both strong professional development and the chance to make a measurable impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead whole-building energy models and building performance analyses for new and existing facilities using industry-standard software.
- Perform energy code compliance, LEED/green building certification analysis, utility incentive studies, benchmarking, and design option evaluations.
- Analyze energy conservation measures (ECMs) and compare alternatives using life-cycle cost analysis, including energy, cost, and carbon impacts.
- Support HVAC load calculations, system performance evaluations, and advanced analyses such as daylight, parametric, and embodied carbon studies, as applicable.
- Participate in energy audits, field investigations, facility assessments, utility data analysis, and measurement/verification support.
- Help develop decarbonization, electrification, resiliency, and energy planning strategies for buildings and campuses.
- Review architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings and specifications to extract modeling inputs and assess alignment with project performance goals.
- Prepare technical reports and client deliverables, and present results and recommendations to clients and project teams.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to establish project energy goals, provide performance-driven design feedback, and support quality, timely project delivery.
- Contribute to green building certification submissions, proposal support, QA/QC, and continuous improvement of tools and workflows.
- Stay current with energy codes, standards, and industry best practices, and mentor junior staff through knowledge-sharing and technical support.
- Travel occasionally to support site visits, audits, and project coordination.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in energy modeling, sustainability consulting, HVAC design, commissioning, or building performance analysis.
- Familiarity with energy modeling platforms, such as IES-VE, Trane TRACE, or similar.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems and building energy fundamentals.
- Familiarity with ASHRAE standards and commercial building energy codes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite programs and technical report writing.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
- LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP).
- Experience with federal projects and UFC requirements.
- Experience with CFD analysis, daylighting studies, decarbonization studies, renewable energy analysis, or net-zero design.
- Familiarity with Revit, Power BI, Python, or data analytics tools.
- Experience performing ASHRAE Level II energy audits and facility assessments.
