BlackRock SMA Solutions helps clients customize portfolios for unique tax objectives, values-aligned preferences, and investment exposures across direct indexing, fixed income, active equity, and multi-asset strategies. We deliver a high standard of service to a diverse client base that includes wealth advisors, family offices, endowments, and foundations. The team combines investment expertise with technology-driven solutions to support scalable portfolio management and implementation across a broad range of client needs.

Your Role and Impact

This role focuses on engineering technical solutions that enhance the trading and implementation functions of active portfolio management. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, and delivery of systematic solutions used to manage and trade a high volume of retail and institutional portfolios. This individual will bring strong analytical and quantitative skills, a passion for investing and the markets, and a demonstrated ability to collaborate across engineering, portfolio management, trading, and operations teams. The role offers an opportunity to influence both technology strategy and investment outcomes by driving innovation, automation, and scalable software solutions.

Your Responsibilities

The scope of this role also includes the following responsibilities:

- Develop and deploy sophisticated algorithms to efficiently manage and rebalance SMAs, ensuring alignment with portfolio objectives and investment strategies.
- Analyze business processes and applications, rapidly learn new systems, and drive automation and operational efficiency through technology solutions.
- Design and implement advanced data management capabilities utilizing relational databases and APIs to support scalable and reliable investment workflows.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and engineering approaches to support innovation, platform modernization, and strategic business objectives.
- Lead initiatives focused on process improvement and trade support across equity, multi-asset, and fixed income SMA portfolios.
- Develop high-quality, maintainable software across front-end and back-end platforms while adhering to engineering best practices.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative engineering culture focused on continuous learning and technical excellence.

Your Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with 7-8 years of experience in financial services within an engineering or technology-focused role.
- Strong analytical, software design, and engineering fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, design patterns, and a commitment to writing well-tested, maintainable code.
- Strong programming skills in Python or modern object-oriented languages such as Java or Scala, with experience building backend services and APIs.
- Experience building large-scale, production-grade front-end applications using modern web technologies and frameworks such as React, TypeScript, Angular, or similar technologies.
- Experience building and deploying applications using cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS, along with modern containerization and orchestration technologies.
- Experience driving adoption of AI-assisted SDLC practices to improve engineering productivity, development efficiency, and code quality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, with hands-on experience working with relational, SQL, and/or NoSQL databases.

For Princeton, NJ Only the salary range for this position is USD$148,000.00 - USD$200,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
