Medgar Evers College is seeking a motivated, student-centric Part-Time Math Tutor for the Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP). Funded by the New York State Education Department, LPP is dedicated to providing comprehensive intervention services to high school students to ensure academic excellence, drop-out prevention, and successful college and career readiness.
The Math Tutor will work directly with high school students at our target partner schools: Clara Barton High School and Aspirations Diploma Plus High School in Brooklyn. This role is ideal for an individual passionate about educational equity, urban youth mentorship, and mathematical instruction.
Key Responsibilities
- Academic Support: Deliver high-quality individual and small-group math tutoring to students at Clara Barton HS and Aspirations Diploma Plus HS.
- Curriculum Alignment: Assist students with core high school mathematics, focusing on NYS Regents alignment (Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II/Trigonometry) as well as general homework help.
- Exam Preparation: Facilitate structured preparation sessions for NYS Regents exams, SAT math sections, and final exams.
- Student Engagement: Create an encouraging, productive, and inclusive learning environment that builds students' confidence and mathematical problem-solving skills.
- Progress Tracking: Document student attendance, log academic milestones, track progress, and submit data reports to the LPP Director and school coordinators.
- Collaboration: Maintain professional communication with high school teachers, LPP guidance counselors, and administrative staff to address specific student needs and learning gaps.
- Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma/GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Pay Range:
$18 - $19 per hour
