Quality Control Technician

Job Title: Quality Control Technician Shift: Monday-Friday 2PM-10:30PM PT Job Description The Quality Control Technician performs a wide range of chemical, physical, and instrumental tests on raw materials, in-process products, finished goods, and customer samples to ensure consistent product quality and adherence to specifications. This role follows established analytical procedures, validates methods, manages laboratory data in electronic systems, and collaborates closely with Quality, Production, and R&D teams to support reliable manufacturing processes and continuous improvement. Responsibilities

- Perform chemical, physical, and instrumental testing on raw materials, in-process, finished, and customer product samples, including volumetric and gravimetric analyses, pH measurement, FTIR, SPG, RI, and other instrumental techniques.
- Conduct functional testing such as IACS and thermal conductivity as needed to verify product performance.
- Follow written analytical procedures and standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and compliance in all testing activities.
- Validate established analytical methods and assist in troubleshooting testing procedures to maintain accurate and reliable results.
- Collect, enter, review, and validate laboratory data in WinLIMS or similar data management systems, perform necessary calculations, and prepare results for review and approval.
- Communicate sample status, test progress, and final results clearly and promptly to Quality, Production, and R&D teams.
- Maintain accurate and complete laboratory documentation, including SOPs, test methods, protocols, deviations, batch records, and certificates of analysis (COAs).
- Handle hazardous materials safely, ensuring proper storage, labeling, and disposal in accordance with site safety and chemical hygiene protocols.
- Follow all site safety guidelines and chemical hygiene practices to maintain a safe working environment.
- Troubleshoot basic process and testing issues, identify potential root causes, and escalate complex problems appropriately.
- Log process and test data accurately using computer systems and software tools.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment, supporting colleagues and contributing to a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
- Manage time effectively to prioritize multiple testing assignments and meet production and customer deadlines.
- Maintain strong attention to detail and focus on process control, documentation accuracy, and overall product quality.

Essential Skills

- Experience in quality control and analytical testing within a laboratory or production environment.
- Ability to perform chemical and physical analyses, including volumetric and gravimetric methods and pH measurement.
- Hands-on experience with instrumental techniques such as FTIR, SPG, RI, and related analytical equipment.
- Capability to conduct functional testing, including IACS and thermal conductivity measurements.
- Proficiency in following written analytical procedures and standard operating procedures accurately.
- Experience collecting, entering, reviewing, and validating data in WinLIMS or similar laboratory information management systems.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and the ability to log and manage process data.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on process control, thorough documentation, and maintaining high quality standards.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, follow instructions, and communicate clearly with cross-functional groups.
- Good time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Comfort working with hazardous materials while adhering to safety and chemical hygiene protocols.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related scientific or engineering field.
- Background in materials testing, including experience working with metals or similar materials.
- Quality control experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or laboratory setting.
- Laboratory experience gained in academia or industry, including hands-on work with analytical instruments and test methods.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis software such as Minitab is a plus.
- Strong documentation skills for maintaining SOPs, test methods, protocols, deviations, batch records, and COAs.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with Quality, Production, and R&D teams.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot basic process and testing issues and escalate more complex problems appropriately.

Work Environment The role is based in a laboratory environment that supports production and quality control operations. The Quality Control Technician works with a variety of analytical instruments and functional testing equipment, including FTIR and tools for SPG, RI, IACS, and thermal conductivity measurements. Daily work involves handling chemicals and hazardous materials in accordance with established safety and chemical hygiene protocols, with an emphasis on proper storage, labeling, and disposal. The position relies on computer-based tools such as WinLIMS or similar laboratory information management systems, as well as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, for data entry, analysis, and reporting. The technician collaborates regularly with Quality, Production, and R&D teams, contributing to a supportive, team-oriented culture focused on accuracy, reliability, and continuous improvement.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fremont, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
