Job Description

Objective:

We are seeking a technically capable Operational Technology Systems Administrator to administer, configure, and maintain our Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) platform, with the opportunity to grow into supporting related operational technology (OT) systems over time. This is primarily an application administration and operational support role. The ideal candidate has experience supporting utility operational systems such as SCADA, EMS, ADMS/DMS, or similar platforms and is comfortable managing users, configurations, integrations, and overall system health. Direct DERMS experience is a plus but not required. We will provide structured, hands-on training.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

- System Administration: Administer and maintain the DERMS application, including user accounts, permissions, Distributed Energy Resource (DER) asset configurations, telemetry points, alarms, dashboards, and system settings.
- Systems Support: Provide operational support of DERMS applications to ensure system uptime, optimal performance, and security; perform upgrades and patching.
- System Integration: Support the integration of DERMS with SCADA, ADMS, and other utility systems; monitor communications and data flows and troubleshoot issues as they arise. While ADMS is not currently deployed, familiarity with ADMS concepts and integrations will help support future grid modernization initiatives.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor system performance and investigate application, communications, and data-quality issues; maintain accurate DER asset information and system documentation.
- DER Onboarding: Assist with adding, configuring, testing, and commissioning new distributed energy resources within the DERMS platform.
- Reporting: Maintain, produce, and enhance operational dashboards and reports used by system operators, administrators, and business stakeholders (configuration status, alarm summaries, communication health). Support broader reporting needs across the organization by identifying what data is available within DERMS and related systems and advising on how it can be used for reporting.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with System Operations, field engineers, IT teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and member cooperatives to improve DERMS functionality and resolve technical issues.
- Cybersecurity & Compliance: Follow established cybersecurity, access-control, and change management procedures for all DERMS administration activities; support access reviews and system recovery efforts as needed.
- Training & Documentation: Develop and maintain end-user training materials and documentation (troubleshooting guides, SOPs, configuration records); provide technical support to DERMS users.

Qualifications

Required:

- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2+ years of experience in an electric utility, technology, engineering, or operational technology (OT) environment.
- Experience administering, configuring, or supporting at least one of the following: SCADA, EMS, ADMS/DMS, OMS, distribution automation, or industrial control systems.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to interpret technical documentation, system diagrams, and logs.
- Ability to learn new software applications and adapt to evolving system configurations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel.

Preferred:

- Hands-on experience administering a DERMS platform (e.g., AspenTech OSI, GridOS, AutoGrid, Siemens).
- Experience with SCADA, EMS, ADMS/DMS, OMS, GIS, or AMI in a utility setting.
- Electric utility or electric cooperative experience.
- Familiarity with utility communication protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850, MultiSpeak, ICCP, or REST APIs.
- Basic scripting or query skills (SQL, PowerShell, Python) for configuration, automation, or routine reporting.
- Familiarity with operational technology cybersecurity practices and NERC CIP requirements.
- Experience working with utility vendors or system integrators to resolve configuration or support issue.
