PURPOSE OF THE JOB

As Owens Corning accelerates its IT/OT convergence and Digital Manufacturing strategy, the OT Network Engineer plays a critical role in enabling secure, reliable, and scalable manufacturing operations across our global manufacturing footprint. This position is responsible for deploying, supporting, and continuously improving Operational Technology (OT) network infrastructure while embedding cybersecurity across industrial control system (ICS) environments. This role partners with manufacturing, engineering, cybersecurity, and technology teams to evaluate emerging technologies, develop and implement global OT standards, and translate architecture strategies into practical site solutions that improve connectivity, resiliency, visibility, and operational performance. Through the deployment of the Manufacturing Digital Reference Architecture (MDRA) and other strategic digital initiatives, this role assists in accelerating Owens Corning's digital transformation while ensuring the security, availability, and long-term sustainability of manufacturing operations

As a key contributor to the Manufacturing Digital Reference Architecture (MDRA), the OT Network Engineer partners with plant teams, engineering, cybersecurity, enterprise infrastructure, application owners, and delivery partners to modernize industrial networks across Owens Corning manufacturing sites. The role provides hands-on technical leadership from assessment and detailed design through implementation, operational readiness, turnover, and lifecycle support.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of Owens Corning specific business processes and operations locally and globally

Executing Strategy

OT Network Engineering and MDRA Deployment

- Implementing designs, configure, test, deploy, and support secure industrial network solutions across Owens Corning manufacturing sites, including switching, routing, firewalls, wireless, network services, and remote connectivity.

- Execute MDRA network deployments using approved architecture patterns, engineering standards, bills of material, configuration templates, validation plans, and turnover requirements.

- Perform site network assessments; document current-state topology, asset dependencies, risks, capacity constraints, and gaps; and develop practical remediation and modernization recommendations.

- Produce detailed logical and physical designs, network diagrams, IP and VLAN plans, firewall and access requirements, rack and cabling specifications, implementation plans, test scripts, and as-built documentation.

- Apply defense-in-depth principles, segmentation, zones and conduits, secure management practices, and least privilege connectivity while accounting for the availability and safety requirements of industrial operations.

- Partner with controls and automation engineers to support industrial protocols, PLCs, HMIs, historians, supervisory systems, industrial servers, edge platforms, and other connected manufacturing technologies.

- Plan and execute changes in active manufacturing environments with disciplined risk assessment, communication, rollback planning, validation, and production handoff.

- Support capital projects, plant expansions, equipment integrations, and digital manufacturing initiatives by defining network requirements early and ensuring solutions align to global standards.

- Support Digital Manufacturing initiatives by designing and deploying OT network infrastructure, systems that enable advanced manufacturing technologies, industrial data platforms, analytics, automation, connectivity, and operational visibility solutions.

Reliability, Operations, and Lifecycle Management

- Monitor network health, availability, capacity, configuration compliance, and performance using approved visibility and management platforms; identify trends and act before they affect production.

- Provide Tier 3 technical support for complex OT network incidents, lead structured troubleshooting and root cause analysis, and implement sustainable root cause fixes.

- Maintain configuration backups, software and firmware standards, lifecycle records, spares recommendations, and refresh plans for industrial network infrastructure.

- Develop and improve operational playbooks, support procedures, escalation paths, maintenance practices, and recovery methods that improve site support readiness.

- Validate that solutions are operationally supportable before turnover, including monitoring, backup, alerting, documentation, ownership, training, and vendor support arrangements.

- Participate in planned maintenance and critical incident response outside normal business hours when manufacturing operations require support.

Cybersecurity, Standards, and Governance

- Embed cybersecurity into network design and implementation in partnership with OT Security

- Assess network, industrial control system and digital manufacturing innovative technology designs for security, resiliency, and supportability gaps; clearly communicate risk and recommend proportionate mitigations.

- Apply Owens Corning policies and recognized practices for industrial environments, including Purdue-model concepts, ISA/IEC 62443 principles, NIST guidance, and secure network architecture patterns.

- Contribute field experience and lessons learned to the continuous improvement of OT network standards, reference designs, configuration baselines, and deployment methods.

- Support architecture and project governance reviews by presenting technical designs, options, risks, dependencies, cost considerations, and support models.

Business Partnership and Delivery Leadership

- Build trusted relationships with plant leadership, maintenance, controls engineering, process engineering, capital delivery, enterprise IT, cybersecurity, application teams, and external partners.

- Translate technical issues into clear business impacts involving production, safety, quality, cost, schedule, and cyber risk; communicate recommendations to both technical and nontechnical audiences.

- Coordinate integrators and vendors, review work quality, verify adherence to Owens Corning standards, and ensure complete documentation and knowledge transfer.

- Manage assigned work with strong ownership of scope, schedule, risks, dependencies, status communication, and deliverables across multiple sites or projects.

- Share knowledge, coach site and support teams, and contribute to a culture of standardization, continuous learning, inclusion, and operational excellence.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree in network engineering, computer science, information technology, electrical or controls engineering, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

- 3 to 5 years of progressive experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise or industrial networks, including at least two years supporting manufacturing, OT, industrial automation, or other high-availability operational environments.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

- Experience with industrial protocols and use cases, including EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, OPC UA, and CIP; deep expertise in every protocol is not required.

- Experience with Palo Alto Networks or comparable next-generation firewalls, Cisco Identity Services Engine, network access control, industrial wireless, and secure vendor remote access.

- Experience with network monitoring, configuration backup, asset visibility, packet analysis, and log analytics platforms such as NCM, PRTG and Wireshark, or Splunk.

- Experience delivering network infrastructure through site assessments, detailed design, staging, factory or site acceptance testing, cutover, stabilization, and operational turnover.

- Understanding of Purdue-model architecture, zones and conduits, ISA/IEC 62443, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and practical risk management for legacy industrial systems.

- Experience working with capital projects, engineering firms, system integrators, managed service providers, and equipment manufacturers in a global organization.

- Cisco CCNA or equivalent demonstrated capability. CCNP Enterprise, Cisco industrial networking credentials, PCNSE, GICSP, or ISA/IEC 62443 training is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

- Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routing and switching technologies; experience with industrial Ethernet platforms such as Cisco Industrial Ethernet or Rockwell Automation Stratix is strongly preferred.

- Solid working knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, trunking, spanning tree, routing, first-hop redundancy, multicast, quality of service, DHCP, DNS, NTP, SNMP, syslog, and network address translation.

- Experience implementing or supporting network segmentation, firewalls, access control, secure remote access, and network management practices.

- Ability to interpret packet captures, logs, monitoring data, configurations, and network diagrams to isolate complex connectivity and performance issues.

- Working knowledge of industrial control system architecture and common OT components such as PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, DCS, historians, industrial servers, and edge devices.

- Ability to create accurate technical documentation, including logical and physical diagrams, configuration records, implementation procedures, test plans, and support documentation.

- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, collaborate across functions, and deliver results in environments where production availability is critical.

- Clear written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, curiosity, and a strong safety, security, and customer-service mindset.
