Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
Boundless Vancouver organizes The Christmas Toy Shop program for families and their children. The Christmas Toy Shop Associate works on our seasonal team to assist in set up and daily operations of the Toy Shop program for its duration, assisting in the organizing and overseeing of Toy Shop volunteers, sorting, stocking, and displaying items and offering a hospitable and dignifying experience for families.
Hours of Work
- 35 hrs/wk.
- Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:00pm
KEY Accountabilities:
- Assist in the set-up of our seasonal, off site Toy Shop for welcoming families to a dignified, supportive and fun Christmas experience.
- Ensure donated Toy Shop items (toys, books etc.) are stocked daily and stored securely.
- Daily tidying, cleaning up and organization of the Toy Shop and storage rooms or as needed, including participating in clean up and maintenance of other program or staff areas.
- Assist the Community Engagement/Volunteer Coordinator in orienting volunteers to the Toy Shop while they are deployed to their positions.
- Direct financial and in-kind donations, if brought to the Toy Shop, to the appropriate personnel for receiving, tracking and storing, according to approved policies.
- May assist with the organization/administration of toy drives with companies and organizations in the community.
- Engage and connect with families and individuals visiting the Toy Shop with a warm and friendly demeanor, ensuring all feel at ease and supported.
- Refer visiting families to other Boundless Vancouver programs, where appropriate.
- Follow Toy Shop program allowances/provisions for family size and age categories consistently to ensure equity for program participants and responsible stewardship of Boundless Vancouver’s resources.
- Oversee the Toy Shop in the absence of the coordinator (lunch breaks, day off).
- Report any incidents threatening the health, safety, and well-being of program participants or staff members in a timely manner.
- Report any incidents threatening the security of property or assets in a timely manner.
- Assist in keeping accurate records of Toy Shop inventory at the end of the season.
- Assist in packing up, cleaning up and storing all items from the Toy Shop after it has concluded.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Health & Safety:
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- Completion of online abuse prevention training.
- Required Health and Safety training.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Responsibly manage valuables/assets such as toys and gift cards that will be distributed to neighbours, keeping secure daily.
Working Conditions:
The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury, or illnesses due to:
- Driving and moving of physical inventory.
- Verbal or physical attacks by others (i.e., violent/aggressive person).
- Exposure to infectious diseases.
Education and Experience Qualifications:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service-related field or retail.
- Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, or administration is an asset.
- Experience working with vulnerable or marginalized populations in a non-profit setting is an asset.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
- Excellent verbal communication skills (in person and on the phone).
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Current and valid Driver’s License.
Skills and Capabilities
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Able to stand for long periods, including stocking shelves and moving toys/boxes/shop items.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative, and professional manner.
- Proven ability to multitask.
- Able to work independently but also a team player.
- Proficiency in other language(s) is an asset.
- Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $21.28 to $26.60 with a maximum of $31.92.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
