Position Summary
This great career opportunity is a full-time position supporting Alabama Oncology. Under the direct supervision of the management staff, the Medical Assistant provides administrative, clinical, and clerical support to physicians and the clinical team.
This position plays an important role in ensuring an exceptional patient experience by preparing for daily patient visits, coordinating appointments and testing, maintaining accurate medical records, and assisting the clinical team with patient care and office operations. The MA must be adaptable and able to provide coverage and support across various clinical areas as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Support
Administer injections as directed and within appropriate scope of practice.
Room patients and ensure their needs are addressed throughout their visit.
Assist with phlebotomy triage and coordinate laboratory needs.
Order tests and assist with coordinating diagnostic services.
Clean and prepare patient examination rooms for the next patient.
Prepare patient charts and packets for daily appointments.
Organize and maintain accurate patient charting and documentation.
Coordinate and complete Oncotype testing orders.
Scheduling & Care Coordination
Schedule surgery appointments and other necessary patient services.
Schedule return appointments with physicians.
Coordinate follow-up appointments and ensure appointment details are communicated accurately.
Obtain outside medical records and ensure they are available prior to patient appointments.
Return patient calls as needed and assist with patient inquiries.
Ensure all necessary documentation is obtained and available prior to each patient visit.
Administrative & Clerical Support
Provide administrative and clerical support to physicians, management, and clinical staff.
Manage incoming and outgoing email and mail traffic.
Scan and maintain medical records in accordance with department procedures.
Create and maintain patient packets and appointment-related documentation.
Maintain organized and accurate patient charts.
Assist with daily clinical and administrative workflow to ensure efficient patient care.
Provide coverage and support throughout the clinic as assigned.
Other Responsibilities
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Demonstrate professionalism and compassion when interacting with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of one (1) year of office experience preferred.
