What you will do

Johnson Controls is hiring! The Sustaining Mechanical Engineer is a product support engineering role within the Fire Suppression Special Hazards & Foam R&D team. In this position, you will support a portfolio of fire protection products and equipment used across a variety of applications and industries. You will also provide technical support to the business by partnering with Manufacturing, Quality, and Technical Services teams; collaborating with regulatory and certification agencies to maintain compliance with global standards; and working within a global R&D organization to design, test, validate, and improve products.

This role offers the opportunity to drive product enhancements, implement cost reduction initiatives, and lead engineering changes from concept through execution. You will also play a key role in troubleshooting product issues, supporting continuous improvement efforts, and ensuring the ongoing performance and reliability of our products. As part of your product line responsibilities, you will regularly collaborate with cross-functional teams, global engineering partners, external suppliers, regulatory bodies, and customers.

This position is based onsite in Marinette, WI. Candidates must be commuting distance to the facility, or open to relocation. Only US Citizens and/or Permanent Residents will be considered.

- Conduct root cause analysis of difficult design or manufacturing problems and demonstrate creative thinking in problem solving and design activities.
- Manage multiple sustaining engineering projects and prioritize to meet critical deadlines.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and R&D teams to clearly communicate design specifications and test criteria.

What we look for

Required

- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering

- 3+ years relevant work experience as a mechanical engineer

- Experience based understanding of fundamental engineering theories, mathematics, mechanics, and physical science concepts to the job

- Practical knowledge of best practices for manufacturing and design

Preferred

- Familiarity with DFMEA (design failure mode and effect analysis)

- Functional knowledge of VAVE

- Experience with phase-gate design processes

- Proficiency of MSOffice, PTC Creo and Windchill

SALARY RANGE : $85,000 - $115,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)  This position includes a competitive benefits package.
