The Marine Vetting Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day vetting, risk assessment, and approval of third-party vessels to ensure their suitability for company business. The role supports the effective management of marine risk, safeguarding people, the environment, cargo, assets, and corporate reputation, while enabling safe and reliable shipping operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Vessel Vetting & Clearance:

• Manage end-to-end vessel vetting and clearance processes.

• Process vessel nominations using approved enterprise systems (PAVIS).

• Apply vessel age, newbuild, post-drydock, and management change guidelines.

Marine Risk Assessment:

• Conduct risk-based vessel assessments using inspection history, PSC, incident history, class status, and crew matrix compliance.

• Identify and manage vetting non-conformances and escalate where required.

Stakeholder Engagement:

• Liaise with ship owners and operators on vetting matters.

• Support internal stakeholders with vessel clearance status and risk advice related to marine activities.

Incident Review & Follow-Up:

• Review marine incident reports and corrective actions.

• Ensure adequate root cause analysis and documentation.

Continuous Improvement & Compliance:

• Support process improvements and audits.

• Participate in training and knowledge sharing.

Decision Authority:

Authorized to approve or reject vessels within delegated authority. Exceptions require Marine Assurance Manager approval.

Required Qualifications

- Current or previous seagoing experience as a Deck Officer or Engineering Officer.
- Demonstrated knowledge of marine industry regulations, standards, and assurance frameworks, including MARPOL, SOLAS, ISM, ISPS, MLC, PSC, TMSA, and SIRE.
- Experience evaluating marine risk, vessel suitability, inspection findings, and operational safeguards to support vessel vetting decisions.
- Strong analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining independence and sound judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, or a related maritime discipline.
- Class 1 or Class 2 Certificate of Competency.
- Senior seagoing experience or equivalent shore-based experience in marine assurance, vessel operations, vetting, shipping, or maritime risk management.
- Experience with vessel vetting systems, marine assurance processes, incident investigations, audits, continuous improvement initiatives, and stakeholder engagement across global shipping operations.

Relocation Options:

Relocation may be considered within Chevron's parameters.

International Considerations:

Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
