Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer, to join our growing Canadian Data Center team.

This is a senior, hands-on technical role for an experienced mechanical engineer ready to tackle the scale, speed and complexity of hyperscale, colocation and mission-critical facilities. This is a newly created position

You will design advanced cooling and mechanical infrastructure, solve complex engineering challenges, collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams, and help develop the next generation of engineers.

What You'll Do

- Lead mechanical design for hyperscale, colocation and mission-critical data centers.
- Design HVAC, heat-rejection, chilled-water, condenser-water and critical mechanical systems.
- Develop solutions using CRAHs, CRACs, fan-wall systems, economization, in-row cooling and containment technologies.
- Support high-density and liquid-cooling applications, including direct-to-chip technologies.
- Perform heat-load calculations, capacity planning, airflow studies and CFD analysis.
- Design resilient, redundant and fault-tolerant systems for continuous operations.
- Advance energy-efficient and sustainable cooling strategies.
- Prepare engineering calculations, equipment selections, specifications and technical documentation.
- Coordinate with electrical, structural, architectural, civil, fire protection and controls disciplines.
- Support construction, RFIs, shop drawing reviews, commissioning, startup and turnover.
- Work directly with clients, contractors, vendors and project stakeholders.
- Mentor junior and intermediate engineers and designers.
- Support proposals, pursuits and technical presentations.

Qualifications

What You Bring

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in a Canadian province, or eligibility to obtain registration.
- 6+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience.
- Strong HVAC, cooling and mechanical-system design experience.
- Experience with data centers, mission-critical facilities or other complex building infrastructure.
- Strong technical, multidisciplinary coordination and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
- Hyperscale, colocation or mission-critical data center experience.
- Experience with large chilled-water and campus-scale cooling systems.
- CFD, thermal analysis, airflow or energy-modelling experience.
- Liquid-cooling and high-density computing experience.
- Commissioning and integrated systems testing experience.
- Knowledge of Canadian codes, standards and provincial requirements.
- Familiarity with Uptime Institute Tier concepts, TIA-942 and ANSI/BICSI 002.
- Experience with Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud, BIM 360.
- LEED AP, CEM, BEMP or similar credentials are assets.
