Basic Function

The HV Project Manager / Senior Project Manager - Data Center Power will lead the planning, execution, and delivery of high-voltage transmission, substation, and utility interconnection infrastructure supporting SB Energy’s data center developments. Serving as SB Energy’s Owner’s Representative, this role is accountable for coordinating engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, energization, and turnover of the assigned high-voltage project scope.

This site-based role will lead contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to deliver projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual, technical, and operational requirements. The position will work closely with the site Project Engineer, SB Energy’s in-house engineering specialists, the data center campus team, utilities, and operations personnel to align power infrastructure delivery with campus readiness milestones.

Candidates appointed at the Senior Project Manager level will be expected to manage larger or more complex scopes with greater independence, lead significant commercial and execution decisions within delegated authority, and provide guidance to other project delivery personnel.

Responsibilities

Project Leadership and Delivery

- Lead execution of the assigned high-voltage infrastructure scope, including transmission lines, substations, switching stations, utility interconnections, and associated electrical infrastructure.

- Serve as SB Energy’s primary project management contact for EPC contractors, consultants, utilities, equipment suppliers, and commissioning teams.

- Manage the transition from development, engineering, and permitting into procurement, construction, energization, and turnover.

- Establish and maintain project execution plans, integrated schedules, budgets, milestone tracking, and risk registers.

- Coordinate with data center development, design, construction, operations, procurement, finance, legal, real estate, and permitting teams to resolve dependencies and support project objectives.

Contractor and Construction Management

- Oversee contractor field execution, staffing, progress, quality, and compliance with contractual and project safety requirements.

- Work with site safety and QA/QC personnel to address deficiencies, establish corrective actions, and monitor contractor follow-through.

- Lead project progress meetings and field reviews, identify constraints, and drive resolution of design, procurement, construction, and site issues.

- Evaluate contractor schedules, progress reports, payment applications, and change requests; coordinate required reviews and approvals within SB Energy’s delegated authority.

- Manage scope changes, contractual notices, and supporting records in coordination with commercial and legal resources.

- Develop and implement recovery plans when performance threatens project cost, schedule, quality, or energization milestones.

Engineering and Procurement Coordination

- Partner with the Project Engineer to manage engineering deliverables, design reviews, RFIs, and submittals in alignment with procurement and construction schedules.

- Engage SB Energy’s engineering specialists and Owner’s Engineering consultant to resolve technical issues and confirm that designs address project requirements, constructability, and operational needs.

- Coordinate interfaces among transmission, substation, protection and controls, SCADA, communications, and data center campus infrastructure.

- Oversee procurement and delivery strategies for long-lead equipment and materials, including transformers, breakers, switchgear, protection systems, and transmission materials.

- Track equipment manufacturing, inspections, delivery, and installation readiness; escalate issues that could affect construction or energization.

- Coordinate with the Independent Engineer on project reviews, information requests, and milestone verification.

Utility and External Coordination

- Manage project delivery interfaces with utilities, transmission providers, applicable ISOs/RTOs, regulators, and authorities having jurisdiction.

- Coordinate interconnection requirements, utility approvals, transmission upgrades, outage planning, and energization sequencing.

- Support utility negotiations and technical discussions with the appropriate internal commercial and engineering resources.

- Align utility commitments and delivery schedules with high-voltage construction, commissioning, and data center operational milestones.

Cost, Schedule, and Risk Management

- Own budgets, forecasts, contingencies, and cost reporting for the assigned project scope.

- Identify and manage risks associated with permitting, utility dependencies, equipment deliveries, contractor performance, labor availability, and site conditions.

- Assess the cost and schedule impacts of proposed changes and recommend appropriate actions.

- Provide clear project status reports, forecasts, and executive updates, including decisions needed, emerging risks, and mitigation plans.

Commissioning, Energization, and Closeout

- Lead coordination of commissioning and energization readiness with utilities, contractors, equipment suppliers, engineering specialists, and operations teams.

- Coordinate development and review of testing plans, switching procedures, outage requirements, and energization plans with qualified technical and operating personnel.

- Verify that required inspections, testing, approvals, and readiness reviews are complete before applicable project milestones.

- Coordinate SB Energy’s review and acceptance of contractor completion and milestone certification packages, obtaining required technical and management approvals.

- Drive punch list resolution and delivery of job books, as-built drawings, test records, equipment documentation, and other turnover materials.

- Manage final contractor closeout and transition of completed infrastructure to operations.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field required.

- Project Manager: 4–7 years of experience managing high-voltage transmission and/or substation projects. Senior Project Manager: 7+ years of experience managing high-voltage transmission and/or substation projects.

- Experience delivering projects within utilities, transmission development, EPC organizations, renewable energy, data centers, or comparable industrial or mission-critical infrastructure environments.

- Strong working knowledge of high-voltage substations, transmission line construction, utility interconnection processes, protection and controls, and commissioning and energization activities.

- Experience managing EPC contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.

- Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets, integrated schedules, change orders, forecasts, and execution risks.

- A record of delivering complex infrastructure projects against demanding schedules and coordinating significant utility and contractor dependencies.

- Strong knowledge of construction safety practices and electrical safety requirements.

- Ability to interpret engineering and construction documentation, recognize technical risks, and engage appropriate subject matter experts.

- Strong leadership, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

- Ability to work primarily at the assigned project site and travel as required for project activities.

Senior Project Manager Level

- Demonstrated leadership of large or complex high-voltage projects with substantial responsibility for cost, schedule, contractor performance, and delivery outcomes.

- Experience independently managing significant commercial issues, executive stakeholder communications, and project recovery efforts.

- Ability to lead multiple interdependent work packages and mentor project management and field delivery personnel.

Preferred

- Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

- Experience supporting hyperscale or large-scale data center developments.

- Experience with high-voltage infrastructure in the 69 kV–500 kV range.

- Experience with utility outage coordination, transmission planning, utility-scale commissioning, and grid integration.

- Familiarity with applicable NERC requirements, IEEE standards, the National Electrical Code, and utility standards.

- Experience managing large capital programs or multiple related infrastructure projects.

Location: Pike County, Ohio. Site-based, with travel as needed for utility coordination, supplier visits, and other project activities.

Base Pay - $140,000 - $190,000

The pay range mentioned above is a guideline. We tailor each offer based on your unique skills, experience, location, and market benchmarks—while ensuring internal parity across our teams. The compensation range provided reflects base pay. Total rewards may also include performance-based bonuses, equity grants, and a market leading comprehensive health and wellness benefits package.
