Entry Level Structural (Rail Bridge) Engineer Inspector

Dewberry is seeking an Entry Level Structural (Rail Bridge) Engineer / Inspector to work in its Bloomfield, NJ office and work as part of our growing nationwide Transit and Freight Rail Practice. The successful candidate will be part of a team designing and inspecting both simple and complex transit and freight rail bridges (primarily of steel and concrete construction) and a variety of transportation-related structures (retaining walls, culverts, and other miscellaneous structures). The candidate will also be involved in the development of contract plans, the preparation of engineer's estimates and construction specifications, and performing construction support services. The individual will also be provided with opportunities to participate in marketing and business development activities including attending seminars and conferences, networking events, and/or career fairs. Responsibilities

- Work with a team of engineers on transit and freight rail projects.

- Perform structural analysis, design, load ratings and construction support tasks.

- Design rail bridges and other transportation related structures per AREMA and agency standards.

- Prepare structural plans, construction cost estimates, and engineer’s estimate.

- Perform field investigations under qualified inspectors.

Required Skills & Required Experience

- B.S. in Civil Engineering required (MS or MEng in Structural Engineering preferable).

- 0 - 4 years of experience in Structural, Rail or Civil Engineering.

- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam is preferred.

- Prior internship or summer work experience preferred.

- Familiarity with AREMA Manual for Railway Engineering is preferred but not required.

- Understanding of structural engineering fundamentals.

- Proficiency in MS Office software, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills with interest in improving technical knowledge.

- Physically capable of performing field work including working at heights, over water, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse weather conditions, etc.

- Willing to travel locally and regionally.

- A desire to work in a team environment

The projected range for this position is $84,000 - $86,500 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
